Después de la Tormenta
Los vientos sacudieron como nunca el litoral del continente oriental de Cefeo, las tormentas, habituales para esta época, habían sido las más intensas registradas desde que los humanos colonizaron este mundo. Incluso con la intervención de los satélites de control climático, resultó casi imposible prevenir la ocurrencia de desastres.
Las ciudades costeras de Urtzi y Mari fueron las más afectadas. En Urtzi el servicio de transmisión de eléctrica por microondas, fue suspendido durante casi ocho horas, la línea costera debió ser desalojada y aun con los deflectores activos, muchos edificios sufrieron daños mayores, que requerirían su clausura temporal mientras sean rehabilitados.
Cuando el temporal hubo cesado, los equipos de rescate y reconstrucción fueron enviados a atender las emergencias y a reparar los daños causados. La ingeniero Akiko Santana, a cargo de una brigada formada por treinta robots y generadores de nano máquinas, encargados de la reconstrucción de edificaciones, fue asignada a la rehabilitación de la zona sur de la costa de Urtzi, una de las más afectadas.
—Akiko, las cinco torres del Centro de Comercio fueron los edificios más gravemente afectados, una de las cinco tiene el recubrimiento de una de sus caras casi derruido, creo que debe ser lo primero a atender, la siguiente tormenta está a unos diez días de aquí y si llega a ser tan intensa como ésta, seguramente vamos a tener que recogerlo del suelo —escuchó decir a la voz de RAFAEL, la sonda de exploración de su equipo, que había sido enviada para adelantarse e identificar los daños.
—Gracias RAFAEL, en un momento estaremos allá, por favor no vuelvas a volar entre los edificios a velocidad mach, recuerda que la última vez destruiste varias vidrieras, y tuvimos que reparar tu desastre y no te escuses diciendo que todo el sector está desalojado —dijo Akiko
—Entendido Akiko, me portaré bien —respondió RAFAEL, con un tono burlón en su voz.
La pequeña flota de transportes de la división de Akiko llegó pocos minutos después a la zona de los edificios del Centro de Comercio de Urtzi, los robots de construcción fueron desplegados, los generadores de nanomáquinas iniciaron su labor de producir lo nanobots que se encargarían de desintegrar los escombros y acondicionar las estructuras dañadas para que los robots constructores realizaran su trabajo, esto podría durar unas dos o tres horas, mientras tanto los robots se encargaban de retirar las pilas de polvo que eran dejadas atrás por los nanobots, para ser reciclada en la generación de materiales para la reconstrucción.
Mientras esto sucedía, RAFAEL volaba entre los edificios verificando los daños y reportándolos para que fueran atendidos por la división, mientras Akiko, se encargaba de asignar las máquinas a los daños reportados.
RAFAEL era una sonda de rastreo y vigilancia de quinta generación, su apariencia era la de un tazón naranja puesto baca abajo, de metro y medio de diámetro y cincuenta centímetros de alto, mientras las antiguas sondas se desplazaban usando turbinas propulsoras, alimentadas por combustibles químicos, lo que les daba poca maniobrabilidad y autonomía, RAFAEL era la primera en usar la más moderna tecnología de desplazamiento antigravitacional, similar a la usada por algunas de las naves militares, esto le daba una autonomía y maniobrabilidad inconcebible.
—Akiko, encontré algo raro en un edificio de apartamentos del bloque central, hay personas en su interior —escucho decir a RAFAEL a través del comunicador.
—No es posible se supone que toda esta zona debería estar desocupada. ¿puedes acercarte a revisar? —dijo Akiko.
—De acuerdo Jefa… —dijo, mientras flotaba hacia una de las ventanas del edificio y apuntaba sus sensores térmicos al interior —. Confirmado Akiko, hay personas dentro de una de las habitaciones del edificio, parecen ser tres, dos niños y un adulto.
—¿Qué están haciendo ahí?, ¿puedes averiguar? —preguntó Akiko.
—Creo que están atrapados, el adulto parece estar tendido en el suelo y los niños están a su lado —respondió mientras se desplazaba de una ventana a otra del apartamento tratando de tener una mejor vista de la situación. —Akiko, detecto una intensa emisión de gases en el apartamento, tal parece que una de las tuberías del sistema de climatización se rompió en el apartamento.
—Enviaré a los nanobots de inmediato y llamaré a rescate para que saque de ahí a las personas —dijo Akiko.
—No creo que tengan tiempo para esperarlo, creo que el adulto se desmayó por efecto de los gases, voy a romper las ventanas para que salgan los gases —dijo RAFAEL.
—Espera RAFAEL, tu no puede hacer eso, no estas equipado para ese tipo de funciones —respondió Akiko.
Sin prestar atención, RAFAEL se abalanzó sobre dos ventanas y la columna que las separaba, el primer golpe, rompió uno de los cristales y agrietó la columna, retrocedió tambaleándose en el aire y luego volvió a embestir las ventanas, rompiéndolas y atravesando la columna, cayendo en medio de la sala del apartamento.
Minutos después Akiko, en un deslizador de levitación magnética, llegaría al lugar para encontrar a salvo a la madre con sus dos hijos, que se habían quedado en medio del temporal, resguardados en su apartamento tras no poder escapar a tiempo. Afortunadamente la acción de RAFAEL, quien ahora estaba averiado en medio de la habitación, había permitido que los gases del sistema de refrigeración se disiparan, salvando a los ocupantes del apartamento.
Una de las prerrogativas de la programación de las IA siempre ha sido el resguardo de la vida, esta directiva condujo a RAFAEL a arriesgar su integridad para salvar a la familia que se encontraba en apuros, afortunadamente para él, después de una semana de reparaciones, estaría nuevamente operativo, ignorando las recomendaciones y poniendo en aprietos a Akiko.

The small transport fleet of Akiko's division arrived a few minutes later in the area of the buildings of the Urtzi Trade Centre, the construction robots were deployed, the nanomachine generators began their work to produce the nanobots that would disintegrate the debris and condition the damaged structures for the construction robots to do their job, this could take about two or three hours, while the robots were responsible for removing the piles of dust that were left behind by the nanobots, to be recycled into the generation of materials for reconstruction.
While this was happening, RAFAEL flew between the buildings verifying the damage and reporting it so that it would be attended by the division, while Akiko was in charge of assigning the machines to the reported damage.
RAFAEL was a fifth generation tracking and surveillance probe, its appearance was that of an orange bowl placed upside down, one and a half meters in diameter and fifty centimeters high, while the old probes were moved using propulsive turbines, powered by chemical fuels, which gave them little maneuverability and autonomy, RAFAEL was the first to use the most modern technology of antigravitational displacement, similar to that used by some of the military ships, this gave it an inconceivable autonomy and maneuverability.
-Akiko, I found something strange in an apartment building in the central block, there are people inside - I hear RAFAEL say through the communicator.

-I don't think they have time to wait for it, I think the adult fainted because of the gases, I'm going to break the windows so that the gases come out, -said RAFAEL.
-Wait RAFAEL, you can't do that, you're not equipped for that kind of function, -replied Akiko.
Without paying attention, RAFAEL jumped on two windows and the column that separated them, the first blow, broke one of the windows and cracked the column, he staggered back into the air and then charged the windows again, breaking them and going through the column, falling in the middle of the living room of the apartment.
Minutes later Akiko, in a magnetic levitation slider, would arrive at the place to find safely the mother and her two children, who had remained in the middle of the storm, sheltered in her apartment after not being able to escape in time. Fortunately, the action of RAFAEL, who was now broken down in the middle of the room, had allowed the gases from the cooling system to dissipate, saving the occupants of the apartment.
One of the prerogatives of AI programming has always been the safeguard of life, this directive led RAFAEL to risk its integrity to save the family in distress, fortunately for him, after a week of repairs, he would again be operational, ignoring the recommendations and putting Akiko in distress.
