Today in Sports History #28 - Golf - first US Masters tournament (March 22, 1934)
Time for another Sports History Post! Today on March 22, 1934 the very first Golf Masters Tournament did start at Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia / USA with Horton Smith winning the first event with a 20-foot (6 m) birdie putt at the 17th hole.
The Masters Tournament is also known as The Masters or The US Masters and is one of the four major championships in professional golf sports. The location is always the Augusta National Golf Club - a unique point as the other three major tournaments are taking place in different golf courts. The other three majors are the U.S. Open, The Open Championship, and the PGA Championship.
TheMasters has a number of traditions. The most famous one I learned when I was young and an admirer of our very own German Bernhard Langer - is the green jacket that has been awarded to the champion of the year.
You might forgive me I talk about my German hero - Bernhard is a two-time Masters champion and established this sports - which is still seen a bit as time to talk, do business especially for old people - in Germany.
He still plays Golf and won several senior championships after he turned 50. In 1986, Bernhard became the sport's first official number one ranked player.
Who of you Steemians is playing Golf? I personally tried but I did not qualify for playing on any court yet :-).

I play golf every other week end, normally with clients. I do like to kill some time at the drive range to relax when i can tho.
i never made it above the driving range - they do not let me enter the real greens.....
