Today in Sports History #24 - Bowling Record (March 5, 1924)
March 5 in Sports History was more positive as in World History as reported earlier. On that day in 1924 wa first in a great sports has been achieved. A sports that some people still do not accept as one - like Billiards, Snooker, Darts, Poker and similar forms of Sports many people think this is just a type of spending your free time drinking tons of beer. Well that is also fun maybe - but it is really also professional Sports with a lot of associations and world championships - however it is no Olympic discipline yet.

Back in 1924 it was Frank Carauna to become the 1st to bowl 2 successive perfect 300 games.
On a cold Buffalo night, Frank came out of the box striking, and put 12 in a row on the sheet for 300. That set off a major celebration - which Frank quickly squelched. He was in a groove, and didn't want to lose his edge. So everyone calmed down, and Frank went back to work - and rolled another 300. Perfect games were rare in 1924. During the entire year in the entire country, there were only eleven. Nobody had ever posted back-to-back 300s in sanctioned competition. Frank Caruana had become an instant bowling immortal. From that time on, he was the Double-300 Man.
What is bowling?
Bowling includes several different (depending on countries where it is played) games in which players roll balls at standing objects (pins) - it is usually a heavy ball targeting wooden pins at the end of the alley.
Bowling history
Bowling an be dated back to around 3200 BC where a primitive form of bowling has been played in Egypt. Some artefacts have been found in a child's grave that could be dated back to the above date - this makes bowling a sports over 5,000 years old!
The first historical proof of the game in the Western World have been found in Germany around 300 AD which makes bowling an Egyptian-German game - woohoo!
In the 14th century it became very popular in England having Kings playing it and since then it is one of the most popular sports and recreation activity!
I am a frequent Bowler end need confess I usually enjoy this with a beer or two!

A most excellent post. I really enoyed the history of the story. I hate bowling it is one of the few sports I suck at.... fortunately you are allowed to drink and that is it's saving grace.
My family and friends are extremely good bowlers with an uncle who was one of the first to be on the PBA. Saw my buddy bowl 300 on two seperate occasions but never back to back. Steem on!
