Today in Sports History #26 - Sad day - airplane crash (March 14, 1980)

A sad day in Sports History - on March 14, 1980 a plane crashed during an emergency landing near Warsaw, killing a 14-man American boxing team and 73 others.

At the same time of the crash, a conference on improvements in air travel safety was being held just a kilometre away - what a coincidence.

Officially sources state the crash was caused by defects in materials ( jet engine's shaft) as well as weaknesses in the turbine design.
