Dear Steemians,

let me whisk you away to the great American dream of Road 66. Tranferring a brand new camping car from Middlebury,IL to the west coast, a friend and I drove Will Rogers Highway, better known as Route 66 or simply Motherroad, from march 13th to 25th, all in all some 3360 miles (5900 kilometers)(including all our detours like Las Vegas, Grand Canyon etc). Only 11 full days on the road (we parted only in the late afternoon of march 13th and returned our rental rv in the morning of the 25th) - a little bit unrealistic as an friendly Uber driver in Flagstaff, AZ found.

Welcome to part 13 of my roadbook about the journey on route 66 in march this year.

Liebe Steemians,

Tenth day on the road: 370 miles
Zehnter Tag unterwegs: 595 km

From now on, the title is not correct anymore, because we already left Will Rogers Highway (Route 66) at Victorville, CA, the day before, heading directly to the Pacific shores near Santa Barbara. I will nevertheless maintain it for the three last parts of the series.
We left Santa Clarita early in the morning, heading west again and hit the beautiful Pacific coast at Ventura, CA.

A huge problem appeared: We had still not had any breakfast that morning. At a gas station, a friendly attendant gave us the hint to drive to Solvang. Following this advice, we found a beautiful Danish style village and had a really great breakfast in Paula's Pancake House.

Reinforced by that delicious breakfast, we hit the road again and took the fabulous Highway 1, which we intended to drive until Monterey, CA. This beautiful roadway showed us the Pacific at its best.

Unfortunately Highway 1 was closed and will probably stay closed during the whole year due to the damaged Pfeiffer Canyon Bridge in Big Sur which is beyond repair. So nothing else remained for us as to take Highway 46 to reach 101 and than head north by this inland highway. So we did not see the ocean but strange things like ....

... a strange space to put a license plate:

In the evening we arrived at Moss Landing, a few miles north of Monterey, where we spent the night on a KOA Express RV-Camp. The campsite was situated very close to the fisher harbor, where we found an excellent fish market with eatery to have a good meal:

What a fantastic adventure! I've done sections, but not all in one go! How exciting!

Thank you Melinda! It is for sure an awesome trip.

So many cool places in the small towns to see. Love the ocean pics too!

Thank you so very much! Yes, it was indeed a awesome trip and so many things to see in so short time! I would like to (and maybe will) do this in five or six weeks some day....

What a great collection of memories!

Thank you Alf! Yes it is indeed! 😃

This post is amazing and it was so undervalued... I am sorry but hey, as always, my auto-voter votes you on the first minute you post. Keep up this queality. The votes will come your way. Keep on fellow nomad!

Thank you so very much for your kind words!
And you gave me a great idea, as I'm still looking for some speech to put on the rear of my private RV here at home. Something with "Nomad" would do great! Thanks for the hint! 😃👍🏻
Have a great day, fellow nomad!

Ocean view, rocky shore... and beer :D

That's what we had in San Francisco, where our RV-Park was south of the City on the cliffs over the Pacific.

Well chosen spot! That view is really awesome!

Thank you so very much! 😃

Great work my friend. I love your trip and that amazing time. I enjoy your shots from those little towns and the best part is the bus with a full equipment :))) Have a good one. Cheers. Resteem ;))

Thank you so very much, Margaret!
Yes, the bus was awesome. I would have preferred to post more photos from the coastal Highway one, but as we were unlucky and it was closed, I had to get some alternatives. 😂
Have a wonderful day, my friend!

I need to catch up reading your wonderful series! This installment sure hits some of my favorite spots! Sad you couldn't access Pfeiffer, what a gorgeous place it is!

Thank you so very much!
Missing Pfeiffer for sure was a pitty. I did the trip San Francisco - LA in the late 90ies and I remember the #1 as a gorgeous trip. It was one of my favorites when we planned the R66 trip. I even convinced my travel mate not to drive directly from Las Vegas via Death Valley and Yosemite, but by the Pacific coast to SF.

Yes, indeed, the cliffs and the sea! I think it truly is my favorite drive.

Do the Death Valley trip during early spring. The wildflowers transform it.

Cheers and thanks again for your travelogue!

Love your roadtrip adventures! Oh boy it makes me wanna do that same thing again and again :)

Thank you so very much! Yes, it is indeed an awesome trip! :)
