Dear Steemians,

A great trip lies behind me! Got my kicks on Route 66! Transferring a brand-new rental-RV from Middlebury (near Chicago) to the Pacific coast, always following the old Mother Road, also known as Will Rogers Highway. This highway, established on November 11, 1926, became one of the most famous roads in the United States and originally ran from Chicago, Illinois, through Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona before ending at Santa Monica, California, covering a total of 2,448 miles (3,940 km).
US 66 underwent many improvements and realignments over its lifetime, and it was officially removed from the United States Highway System in 1985, after it had been replaced in its entirety by segments of the Interstate Highway System and it is no longer possible to drive US 66 uninterrupted all the way from Chicago to Los Angeles

Welcome to part two of my Roadbook about the journey on route 66

First day on the road - 196 mi (315 km)

Starting in Chicago in the early morning a shuttle bus brought us to Middlebury, IL, where the campers waited for their crews.

Temperatures were still below 0°C (32°F) and we had snowy conditions. The route took us from Middlebury to Pontiac, Il. Our first camp was a Walmart parking with free overnight park for rv's, including WIFI-Coverage! Thanks to Walmart! Great opportunity to fill up the fridge as well!

This was our trip, some 3660mi (5900km) (including detours to Las Vegas, Grand Canyon etc) in only 11 days - a little unrealistic as an Uber-driver in Flagstaff said

And this was our Baby we spent day and night in for 11 days. This stop was in Joliet. In the background you see the famous Dancing Blues Brothers statue on an ice cream bar.

Well this was it for our first day of this wonderful journey. Unfortunately, the weather was cold and grey but that changed within the next days. So stay connected to the Route 66 adventure, which will be continued. The next part will describe our day 2 on the road, when we left Illinois and arrived in Joplin, Missouri.

One of my dreams is to bring a car over from Europe and drive coast to coast in the US, I guess I'll follow your great adventures in the mean time ;)

Thank you so much, my friend! I hope, you'll do that one day! It is indeed a wonderful experience! Just don' do it in 11 days! It's a bit stressy! 😃😉

Excellent post! I enjoyed seeing and reading it!

Thank you do much! It will be continued and the following days, the photos became better with the weather.

So exciting. I love my local section of the Mother Road. Very different from back east! Thanks for sharing your kicks :)

Yes, I love it too, the landscapes are awesome there. And the more west we came, the better the weather turned (you will see better photos then) and we finally could put the winter cloths away. ;)
