ROAD TRIP 2017 - ROUTE 66 (4) - JOPLIN -> AMARILLO

Dear Steemians,

let me whisk you away to the great American dream of Road 66. Tranferring a brand new camping car from Middlebury,IL to the west coast, a friend and I drove Will Rogers Highway, better known as Route 66 or simply Motherroad, from march 13th to 25th, all in all some 3360 miles (5900 kilometers)(including all our detours like Las Vegas, Grand Canyon etc). Only 11 full days on the road (we parted only in the late afternoon of march 13th and returned our rental rv in the morning of the 25th) - a little bit unrealistic as an friendly Uber driver in Flagstaff, AZ found.

lasst Euch entführen zu dem großen Amerikanischen Traum der Route 66. Um ein brandneues Wohnmobil von Middelbury, Illinois zu Westküste zu überführen, nahmen eine Freund und ich den Will Rogers Highway, besser bekannt als Route 66 oder einfach Mutterstrasse, in der Zeit vom 13. bis 25. März unter die Räder. Alles in Allem fuhren wir zirka 5900 Kilometer (3360 Meilen)(inklusive alle unsere Umwege, wie Las Vegas, Grand Canyon usw). Nur elf volle Tage auf der Straße (wir konnten erst am Nachmittag des 13. März abfahren und gaben das Wohnmobil am Vormittag des 25. März wieder ab - ein wenig unrealistisch, wie ein netter Uber-Fahrer in Flagstaff, Arizona meinte.

Willkommen zum 4. Teil meines Roadbooks aber die Reise auf der Route 66 im März dieses Jahres.

Third day on the road: 476 miles
Dritter Tag unterwegs: 766 Kilometer

Beginning our day with this beautiful sunrise on the Joplin KOA Campsite. The weather was turning better, nevertheless it was still pretty cold in the morning.
As you can see, we were almost alone on the huge site, the season had not yet started.

Wir begannen unseren Tag mit diesem wunderschönen Sonnenaufgang auf dem Joplin KOA Campingplatz. Das Wetter wurde langsam besser, trotzdem war es noch immer ziemlich kalt morgens.
Wie man erkennen kann, waren wir fast alleine auf dem großen Platz, die Saison hatte noch nicht begonnen.

Only 11,27 miles, but Kansas is also part of the Route 66 adventure....

Nur 18, 14 Kilometer, aber Kansas ist auch Teil des Route 66 Abenteuers.....

A short distance indeed, but you find the "Route 66" symbol almost everywhere. That's how the photos must have been like in the 50ies: Here the Rainbow Bridge near Baxter Springs, KS.

Eine kurze Strecke, aber man findet die "Route 66" Symbole fast überall. So müssen die Fotos wohl in den 50ern ausgesehen haben: Hier die " Rainbow Bridge" bei Baxter Springs, Kansas.

After this short Kansas-trip, we were soon entering Oklahoma,...

Nach diesem kurzen Kansas-Trip sind wir bald nach Oklahoma gekommen,...

visiting Bristow - guess I know who this house owner had voted for at the presidential election a few months earlier -...

besuchten wir Bristow - ich glaube zu wissen, wen dieser Hausbesitzer bei der Präsidentschaftswahl ein paar Monate früher gewählt hat- ....

.... and than proceeding to the world famous Rock Café in Stroud, OK. You don't know it? Well then you missed a cool old lady, named Dawn Welch, who leads this historic, 1936 built restaurant. Dawn Welch is a long-time promoter of Route 66 in Oklahoma and even selected Oklahoma's 2009 Woman of the year. This lady is the basis for the character Sally Carrera in the Pixar film Cars.

...dann fuhren wir weiter zum weltberühmten Rock Café in Stroud, Oklahoma. Das sagt Dir nichts? Dann hast Du eine bis jetzt eine coole alte Lady verpasst, welche dieses historische Restaurant, erbaut 1936, heute für. Dawn Welch ist eine langjährige Förderin der Route 66 in Oklahoma und wurde sogar Oklahomas Frau des Jahres 2009. Diese Dame war auch Vorbild für den Charakter Sally Carrera in dem Pixar Film Cars.

Also in Stroud, OK, we saw another famous Route 66 attraction, the Skyliner Motel, which is always a great photo spot.

Ebenfalls in Stroud, OK, sahen wir eine andere berühmte Route 66 Sehenswürdigkeit, das Skyliner Motel, welches immer ein schönes Fotomotiv ist.

Finally we entered Texas, the last state to see that day. The sun was already low and we had another photo scene to visit, namely....

Schliesslich sind wir nach Texas eingereist, der letzte Staat, den wir an diesem Tag noch sahen. Die Sonne stand schon tief und wir hatten noch einen anderen Foto-Spot zu besuchen, nämlich....

... the world famous Conoco Tower gas station in Shamrock, TX....

... die weltberühmte Conoco Tower Tankstelle in Shamrock, Texas....

.... with some nice roadside attractions like this old-timer towing truck.

.... mit einigen hübschen Attraktionen, wie diesem Oldtimer-Abschleppwagen.

That had been our last stop before we hooked up at the campground in Amarillo, TX

Das war unser letzter Stop gewesen, bevor wir auf dem Camping in Amarillo, Texas ankamen.

Later a Uber brought us to the famous "BIG TEXAN" Steakhouse, where we brought the day to close

Später brachte uns ein Uber zum berühmten "BIG TEXAN" Steakhouse, wo wir den Tag ausklingen liessen.
