MODULE 2- CAUSES OF FEAR OF FAILURE

In this module 2 of the series Dealing with Needless Fear, we will be looking at some of the causes of Fear of Failure also known as ATYCHIPHOBIA.

1. CHILDHOOD TRAINING

Hyper-critical adults cause children to internalize damaging mindsets. They establish ultimatums and fear-based rules which configures the minds of the child to pattern. This causes children to feel the constant need to ask for permission and reassurance. They carry this need for validation into adulthood.

2. FEAR OF ERROR OR PERFECTIONISM.

Perfectionism is a fundamental cause of the fear of failure. Perfectionists see failure to be so terrible and humiliating that they don’t try. For perfectionists Stepping outside the comfort zone becomes terrifying.

3. PREVIOUS FAILURE EXPERIENCE.

This can be personal experience or others experiences. Many people who have experience failure are more reluctant to take new risks.

4. 'ISLANDING'- LACK OF NETWORKING.

Over reliance on yourself. Getting stuck in the middle of a project without quality support network. This can also manifest as false confidence or over confidence. When you claim to be what you are not, you put pressure on yourself.

5. LACK OF SELF CONFIDENCE

People with true confidence know they won’t always succeed. A person with fragile self-confidence avoids risks. They’d rather play it safe than try something new. People in this category talk much, claim to be who they are not but play safe when they are required to face reality.
