MODULE 2- LEADERSHIP AND EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE.
This is the second day of this series "A Leader's Emotion" and today we'll be looking at the Nexus between leadership and Emotional Intelligence.
First let's understand some concepts by dissecting them.
In the first module Introduction to a Leader's Emotion, we saw what Emotion simply means and without repetition, let's see what Intelligence means now.
The Oxford Dictionary defines Intelligence as the Capacity of mind, especially to understand principles, truths, facts or meanings, acquire knowledge, and apply it to practice.
You won't be lost if I deduce from above definition that Emotional Intelligence simply is the capacity of the mind to understand the objective truth about Emotions, either his or of others, while putting such understanding into practice to achieve a result.
Emotional Quotent is an attempt to measure Emotional Intelligence and developing high Emotional Quotent is very important for leaders.
When people come together as a team to achieve a result, these are different personalities coming together. A leader lacking in emotional intelligence is not able to comprehend, manage his emotions and that of people in his team.
When a leader posses high Emotional quotent he exhibits certain competencies like Emphaty, Self regulations and Self awareness. In the next module will talk about Leadership and Self awareness.
As a leader, to develop a high emotional quotent, you should practice attentive listening, read and learn more about emotions, learn from your mistakes like times you made decisions based on emotional and how bad they turned out.
You should also surround yourself with leaders who have high Emotional quotent so you learn by modelling how their thought process is, and how they react to emotional impulses.
