MODULE 1- EMPLOYABILITY IN THE 21st CENTURY.

We will be looking at employability skills in 21st century, but on this particular post, we'll first of all try to understand the 21st century job Dynamics.

Many of us know that the first 21st century began in year 2000/2001, but not many of us may be aware that the year 2000/2001 marked the beginning of a new millennium.

In Economic History, that period also marked the beginning of what is referred to as the Fourth Industrial Revolution

Man, from the time before the birth of Christ in AD1 and also after the death of Christ in AD33 has continued to make significant efforts in improving his environment and how he is able to do things or achieve results.

The bulk of the work man needs to do has always been left in the hands of cruel tools which he developed from his environment until the 18th century when he made a breakthrough by developing machines for production of both raw materials and finished goods.

That breakthrough is known as the First Industrial Revolution. It changed the ways man used to do things.. Steam Engines were invented, seed drills etc. Production increased.

This invention gave way for improvement, and soon electricy was introduced in the 19th century and industries gradually began to mass produce goods and services, especially by the adoption of the Division of labour

This is known in History as the Second Industrial Revolution and it lasted till some years after the end of WWII in 1945.

During the period after the end of the war (known generally as the Cold war period), nations began competing amongst themselves for superiority.

Not in arms alone but in technological advancement. This led to another breakthrough, Computers and the Internet were invented.

Now, this period is known in Economic History as the third Industrial Revolution

The fourth Industrial Revolution began at the dawn of the 21st Century and has continued even till tomorrow.

The features of the fourth industrial Revolution is the development of cyber physical systems, hyperconnectivity, Internet of things and Artificial Intelligence.

Now, why have I taken my time to highlight these for us, it is first to help us understand and appreciate how far humans have come in terms of technological advancement.

Then second, to drive home the point I want to make, which is that the world is not waiting for anybody especially you as an individual or any country as a whole.

Just when Nigeria is still battling with setting up 4G infrastructures, China has announced 5G and has began plans to introduce 6G soon.

The 21st century is a fast-paced century.

It is the century in which if you are not well equipped, you may not be able to do anything.

That is why you as a young person must ensure you are well equipped to survive in this period.

And you do this by increasing your employability as an individual.
