MODULE 4 - LEADERSHIP AND PERSONALITY.
Today we are going to examine the role personality has to play in the place of effective leadership.
First when we talk of personality, we refer to
A set of qualities that make a person (or thing) distinct from another - Oxford Mini Dictionary.
These sets of qualities is expected to translate to charisma and make you stand out from the crowd. There are a lot of differing personality traits out there possessed by different people.
As a leader then, you are expected to not only understand your personality and how it affects your leadership styles but also understand other people's personality traits which will enable you motivate and inspire them towards a goal.
As a leader, there are 5 personality traits expected of you for success. They include agreeableness, dependability, emotional stability, surgency and intellectance.
Agreeableness... This refers to the ability of a leader to understand and share the feelings of his followers while showing compassion and emphaty.
Dependability... This refers to the ability of the leader to be reliable. It also refers to the ability of a leader to be responsible and deligent towards his task.
Emotional Stability... It refers to a Leader's ability to be in full control of his emotions. A leader is a human being who has feelings too but outburst of emotion is unlikely of a leader.
Surgency This refers to a Leader's ability to be assertive, positive, enthusiastic, zealous, motivated and fully present.
Intellectance This simply refers to a Leader's ability to show Intelligence when required. A leader should be free and open minded, show creativity and innovation.
Personality isn't something that can be totally changed. As a leader, some things are required of you which has been mentioned as relating to the personality traits we've mentioned. However, you should also be original and authentic.
