MODULE 3 - 21st CENTURY EMPLOYABILITY SKILLS.
When we talk about skills, what do we mean?? Skills simply refer to abilities we have to do something.
Skills could be categorized in several ways but I believe majorly, they are categorized into Hard Skills and Soft Skills.
Hard skills are specific skills acquired through special education or training.
Hard skills are sometimes referred to as job-specific skills because different industries require different Hard Skills. So, your choice of which Hard skill to learn will be dependent on your career options.
Soft Skills on the other hand refers to the Adaptive abilities that help one function effectively as an individual. Like I said, Hard Skills are Job-specific while Soft Skills are not. With Soft Skills plus Hard Skills you will soar more than one with Hard Skills alone.
I will focus on soft skills but I'm going to put the different 21st century skills into categories without specifying if it's a hard or soft skills.
1. Communication Skills.
Communication skills simply is the abilities employed for effective reception and sharing of information. Communication skills include Public Speaking, Presentation, Writing, feedback, and non-verbal skills.
2. Personal Skills.
Personal skills are also called interpersonal skills are inherent or natural qualities which are often considered as personal strengths. These skills include Tenacity, Adaptation, Confidence, Leadership, Flexibility etc.
3. People's Skills.
People's Skills are traits and characteristics that makes for better relationship with people of difference character and Personalities. These skills include, Emotional Intelligence, Teamwork, Delegation, Collaboration, Empathy, Mentorship etc
4. Organizational Skills.
Organizational skills refers to the ability to manage different external and internal resources available effectively and efficiently to achieve a goal. They include Planning, Project Management, Critical and Analytical thinking, Time Management, Multi-tasking, prioritization etc.
5. Digital Skills.
Digital Skills which in some cases refered to as I.T skills simply means the ability to understand and manipulate a wide range of digital tools like computers and the internet. These skills include Use of the Social Media Word Processing, Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Graphics Designing, SEO, Content Creation, Data Analysis etc.
You really don't have to posses all these skills but the more skills you have, the more valuable your CV or Resume will apply.
Always seize the opportunity to acquire more skills. It's called personal development.
