Sketches of Sculptures

Sketches of Sculptures – Pencil – 5 x 7 inches.

In Copenhagen one morning, I was strolling along the waterfront with nothing in mind when I accidentally made a “wrong” turn and found myself in a small courtyard, surrounded by ten or twelve imposing sculptures, all slightly larger than life-size. They seemed to depict mythological figures. They were blackened with age and had apparently been cut from the façades of public buildings.

Here is a sketch of two of them. I’ve always wanted to include them in a painting, but I’ve never been able to.
