The Land of Raiden
Leonie dismissed everyone else
left in her chambers before addressing us.
“Raea! How I have missed you,” she took my hands and squeezed them affectionately before hugging me.
“I have missed you greatly as well Queen Leonie,” I hugged her back.
“Captain Kasson, if you would be so gracious as to return to your post, I will gladly call you back when the Keeper Astraea is ready to depart, unless of course she is not leaving?” she smiled deviously at me.
“If you are inviting me to stay, I may stay for supper only, as I have a prior engagement that cannot be put off any longer than that.”
“Oh goodie!” she cheered in youthful glee.
“Very well, Queen Leonie, shall I return to escort you both at that time?”
“You may Captain.”
“Until then,” he kissed both of our hands, and bowed before departing.
When the door had shut behind him,
and we were alone, Leonie immediately took my hand and led me to her private chambers through a door behind the throne. In her room, a giant feather bed stood centered against the back wall. A large pool of silver water took up the left corner and a beautiful tall wooden vanity stood on the right. It was a room connected by light, as two of her walls from the waist up were windows, made of delicately twisted wood and glass. Much like Leonie herself, her room depicted tranquility and leisure.
Leonie has curly, playful,
bright, ice-blue hair which she keeps pinned back underneath a flower petal crown. She has stunning ice blue eyes, and wears long, wispy gowns of varying pastel colors. Her wings, when not in use, lay among the many folds of each gown, wispy and opalescent. At their full spread, each wing reached six by eight feet across. Though she had been ruler of the city for nigh’ on a century, she appeared to be an adolescent of about seventeen years old in every physical manner. Her personality, her sense of right and wrong, and even her ideas for the most part, were from the heart of a child, innocent and pure. However, as time had gone by, her heart, and mind aged, and that was the sign that it was time for a new ruler, as Raiden had and always would be, ruled by a just child, or rather, the fairest maiden. When Leonie began to feel the emotions of an adult, when she had noticed a longing for Captain Kasson, she started her search for her replacement, which she had decided would be Tea.
“Come sit on the terrace with me Raea.”
She opened a door
near the pool that lead out to a beautiful balcony. A canopy of tree branches, leaves, and flowers hung over the top of it forming a roof. We both climbed into two lovely white comfortable wicker seats filled with the softest stuffed feather cushions.
“Tea?” she offered a cup and a saucer.
“Yes, thank you.”
I sipped it gratefully. It was so tasty, like warm gingerbread.
“So tell me Raea, where are you headed that would prevent you from staying longer?”
“Tertull,” I tried to not sound as serious as I was, but I couldn’t fool Leonie, and didn’t really intend to.
“Oh dear… why there?” she asked.
“I must see Master Dyvin about a man I am searching for. I think he can help me. Papa is already there on other business, as is Aubrey, but it is something I must do… even if it is not important to them.”
“You are cryptic Raea. For what reason must you find this man?”
“This man is…” my voice choked, “was… my starlight.”
Being together made us remember
what it had been like when we were new to each other. We had spent many days and nights together, giggling about the guards, and love, and everything a new female finds delightfully foolish. Now, as my mind was drawn to Jack I couldn’t help but wonder why we were never told then about the pain love can cause, a heart tearing pain.
“Raea if you do not tell me what you are thinking about, I am quite sure I will burst! Is it this man?”
“Yes and no. I was really thinking about how naïve I was when I first became a season. However, I need him, more than I could ever possibly admit to, and therefore I must go to Tertull.”
“How did you meet him?” Leonie asked.
“When I was painting, I met him one night when I was painting on Earth near his home.”
“His home? What can you mean? If his home is on Earth, than you… you met him when he was still human?” she asked as if the sound of what she was saying could not possibly be correct.
My silence was all the confirmation she needed.
“Raea! You know how dangerous that is, do you not? You could lose your position! You remember the tales of Winter? The painter who lost himself in love, never to be found again? That could become you! They still haven’t found him.”
“I know of the risks, Leonie, believe me; Papa and Aubrey made that quite clear then…” my voice trailed off sadly.
“Tell me about him Raea,” she whispered to me, intrigued by my dedication. ‘He must be quite a unique man indeed, to have caught her attention so,’ she thought to herself.
