Renaissance Faire in Bristol, Wisconsin

in #photography6 years ago

OK, I lied, THIS was the last place my friend took me in Wisconsin which was a Renaissance Faire in Bristol. I guess I should call it THE Ren Faire, since it’s a major attraction of the area. I’ve never been to one and it sounded corny but these days try to keep an open mind. Anyway, here are some amateur shots:

I hope they put this guy near the entrance on purpose because his pirate method acting put Johnny Depp to shame. He was very into it, but it never felt awkward for a second. In the back is a woman selling her child who apparently never wants to grow up, may or may not be part of the Faire.

Just noticed this girl from behind is model material, yowza. There is a lot of trash in the area, I imagine wifebeater guy is constantly fighting off men who look suggestively at his baby mama.

This dude was pirate lite, either mellower than the first guy, just smoked a doober, or is crushed after years of not being able to sell enough leather.

Didn’t stop to hear whether this bro was getting signed anytime soon. He should consider starting beef with Eminem if he wants to get his name out there.

Gandalf totem carved into what looks like a stump. Don’t think anyone told him he’d just be selfie bait.

I’m thinking the performing acts are bring-your-own-chair events, or else this guy got last pick, likely because he is the slowest Renny. Forcing him to stand would have been a cruel joke. This act is largely admiring the willpower of that chair not to have its legs snapped under the crushing story-telling power of this man. Most people don’t realize musical ability comes from the gut, chair man was clearly born to rock the lute.

This is the stuff of nightmares. I’m not sure I can break down what this person would be like without the makeup. He didn’t speak so he could stay in character as a baby. Notice the clear radius of personal space surrounding him. I too kept my distance and tried to hide my cringe. It should be noted that it was hot as FUCK this day, I don’t know how half these actors/actresses didn’t collapse of dehydration. Baby bro might have rigged up this box to be able to pee inside of it. It might have been a consideration to sell concessions out of the box as well.

We sat and watched this guy perform as a jester and quite frankly was the best thing we saw the whole day. He was extremely entertaining and even ad-libbed a bit to take advantage of some members of the audience. He wasn’t supposed to speak during the show, but broke character a few times to get out a few jokes he couldn’t hold in.

“So what do you do, Sharon?”
“Well I stitch my cat into 1700s style tapestries.”
Some of the larger rugs/tapestries were pretty amazing, I wonder if they have a machine that does that now.

Anyone who knows me, knows I can’t resist my green, it is the stuff of life.

I felt the Faire could have used more of this, sharp weapons displayed from that era. Maybe they had to cut back after too many accidents.

This was a show displaying all the female attire for the elites from that time. Women at that time had very sturdy bases, good luck ever tipping one over. In the back is a White Castle.

Wanted a shot of the green, then noticed either this is a walk-through chapel where you can get married for $50 on the spot, or they forgot to put up walls around a porta potty.

I didn’t bother to check what book this was, but the setup looked neateroni.

Old dressed up woman doing some story-telling and answering questions about the time period. I feel bad for the people sitting right next to her who feel social pressure and can’t get up to leave because it sucks.

All in all I really enjoyed the experience and would bring some money next time to purchase some choice BDSM equipment.

My partner and I visited this very Ren faire, popped both of our cherries. We were both pretty disappointed by the amount of it that centered around selling bullshit that people buy to wear only at this place (or maybe they wear those mechanical pets on their shoulders to the grocery). However, I too was lingering at the chainmail tent, thinking about the sensation of the heavy, cool metal links against my body fondly. That Moonie guy was pretty sharp, he was helping assist another performer and kept stealing the spotlight...and pretzels.

But some of the costumes were just straight confusing to us. We saw literal jack sparrow, among other pirates...saw chicks with little mermaid getups...perhaps fantasy/LARP fest was taken? The Renaissance theme got pretty weak in some places. Alcohol helped us stay for a while, that and a badass sword swallower.

YES! The chainmail was exactly what I was thinking of, was telling my friend there that thing's gotta be 50+ lbs for the full getup. Yea there are no rules anymore, I'm thinking about going dressed as a dolphin so I can get with one of the mermaid chicks. Can you resist a dolphin in chainmail?
