Today's Topic: CAN COCKROACHES SURVIVE A NUCLEAR APOCALYPSE?🤔
TL; DW (Too Long; Didn’t Watch)
- Cockroaches can withstand up to 900 times their body weight, or about 2 pounds.
- 2 pounds is equal to about 0.02 joules of force resistance (to the average cockroach).
- A nuke's blast produces 63,000 petajoules in head to head confrontation. ( Peta = 15 more zeros on the end of that number 😲)
- If far enough away they COULD potentially survive... a little, but not much.
AFTER the explosion
- A human can handle about 1000 rads of radiation.
- A cockroach, depending on variety, can do 5,000 - 10,000 rads.
- As fallout spreads, everything INCLUDING cockroaches, within a two kilometer radius dies within 48 hours (based on Hiroshima).
- Nowadays, nukes are MUCH stornger and more radioactive, leaving cockroaches dead with the rest of us... and Twinkies, that would have already molded.
- A Braconidae Wasp could actually survive, being able to handle 180,000 rads and still be able to reproduce.

lmao you're probably right, that's the scary part!
Those things are like a weaponized creates that somehow escape the laboratory. I find them rather disgusting. While I did know they could handle quite a higher amount of radiation I did learn a couple of new facts! Somehow the knowledge that the will go with me in such a horrible act is almost calming.
900 times, no wonder those things are so hard to kill. I’ve seen some fat ones before living off whatever source of food they discovered. Some people do not keep a very clean environment…

Though to be fair, I agree. Have you seen the BIG ones? Like BIG. Hand-sized. While creepy, when they are bigger, they are kinda like a pet.
But the normal everyday variety, eating people's filth?

Lol! Yes. Sadly, that is the only thing that will do it. I'm in the same boat. We have 2 months of vicious (hungry) mosquitos. I'm sure nothing will kill them except the End Times...😱
