HELP

Introduction

I am gradually updating the FAQ section of Steemithelp.net - I recently updated the navigation and broke it up into separate sections.

This will allow me to write more detailed information on each topic, as well as being able to update it more easily section by section.

I also think it is a lot easier to follow and find what you are looking for this way:

Screenshot

I have just completed some new additions which will replace the very basic information in my original version of the FAQ.

These cover verification and curation guilds. I have used a more basic question and answer style to make them quicker and easier to read - let me know if you prefer this method or not.

Also let me know if you believe I have missed something important in the following sections. Once I have completed them (with your feedback) I will put them up on the site.

Further I am looking for someone who has an example verification photo or video that they would allow me to use as an example to add to the post when it goes up.

Verification

Who am I

What is it?

  • A way of providing evidence that you are who you say you are.
  • A means of providing evidence that you produced the content that you are posting.

How do I verify my account?

  • A photo or video with you holding up a piece of paper which has your Steemit name and the date on it.
  • A post on an official website, Facebook account or other online location that is already associated with your name/work you are posting which links to your Steemit account/name and would not be accessible to someone else.
  • The SteemVerify service which allows greater anonymity via a 3rd party.

Why?

Mask

  • To reduce the risk of people impersonating others to gain a following and earn money on Steemit.
  • To reduce the risk of people falsely claiming to have produced content i.e. plagiarism etc.
  • To increase trust.

Notes

  1. It does not guarantee that an account will act ethically.
  2. It is not mandatory.

For more detailed discussion of Verification please read this excellent post by @reneenouveau on Steemit:

Curation Guilds

What are they?

Content Curation 1

Groups that exist to look for good content that may otherwise not earn very much money or rewards and try to even the balance. The main aim is to improve the overall standard of curation and reduce the amount of high quality content that gets overlooked.

Why?

  1. People have limited time and attention.
  2. It is hard for new users to get noticed or develop a following if they are not already well known in the community.
  3. It is very hard to get to the trending page without high value votes and these users may have even less time to curate themselves.
  4. Users who put in a lot of time and effort and are neglected may become disheartened and give up - this is obviously a problem if we want to expand Steemit and attract/retain good writers.

How?

Award
They do this using a number of methods:

  1. Donated SP/Steem.
  2. People who follow their curation trail to vote with them.
  3. Donated votes from high value (whale) accounts.
  4. Most use a combination of the above.

Some of them also post lists of content that they have curated along with regular status updates.

How do I use them?

Each group has it's own submission and posting rules which can change over time. This can include specific tags, post topics, reputation rules etc. Please read their submission rules/guidelines and be sure to follow them.

I have included the announcement threads below but it is also best to follow the associated Steemit account for the latest updates or to check/ask in the related RocketChat channel if available.

  • Let me know if you have a verification photo/video that you would be willing for me to place on the site. You will of course get credit in the post.

Great site again, good new additions. One thing I didn't mention before, was the link color. It's a bit too light for contrast with the background. Upping the darkness a bit in the hyperlink color would make things better.

Yes I was thinking that. I have changed it to a dark grey know. Have a look and see what you think. I have also updated the screenshot but it shows better on the actual site.

Better. But I have an even better suggestion you can try out. Invert the regular link color with the hover color. Make the link the dark color, that is darker than the regular text, and then when you hover over it, you can get the less visible lighter text and it doesn't matter so much. This way the links stand out from the regular text, but as darker, instead of lighter. What do you think? Try it out.

I will need to delve deeper into the settings. The weird thing about the settings on Squarespace theme are that you can't necessarily modify them beyond certain parameters. I actually have the link colour set to black now but it is still showing as a grey colour - not sure how to override it but there are a lot of settings.

Good idea. I send this link directly to people to help them out when they need it and I see them -- I am so glad it has a separate URL - I was so stoked when I saw this come up awhile ago..... the first article on FAQ/help by @thecryptofiend is still a staple for #Steemit101 stuff!

@thecryptofiend this kitten says "agreee~~"

hmmm.. don't use the freakin' flag without warning the author?

I have been sending this page directly to people to help them.

Thank you. It is taking longer than I thought because some of the markdown needs to be fixed before transferring to Squarespace and also the links for some of the images seem to have been broken when SteemImg was updated - so it almost as much work as writing the articles in the first place to put them up in some cases.

Oh and RS for you too, you really are one of the hardest working Steemers of all time.

Been awhile since I pulled that out!

Thank you for your kind words and support. Have a bit of a migraine now from messing around with website settings!

If anyone deserves a break on here it is you bro. Honestly.

Thanks. It is hard to stay away though lol.

Great work: thanks for persisting. Just one suggestion: after this part in "Curation Guilds" : "How do I use them?"

Each group has it's own submission and posting rules which can change over time. This can include specific tags, post topics, reputation rules etc. I have included the announcement threads below but it is also best to follow the associated Steemit account for the latest updates or to check/ask in the related RocketChat channel if available.

could you add, "Don't break their rules", "Expect these groups to actively enforce their rules", or suchlike?

Sure. I will add it to the to the guide when I upload it. How about "Please read their submission rules/guidelines and be sure to follow them."

Thanks. I'm going to put some provisional versions up now just to see how they are.

Lol. I have updated the site now and added your suggestion. Feel free to have a look.
