Even Gardening Doesn't Help ...

in #gardening7 years ago (edited)

How inspired are you at writing here? If there's one thing I am sure of @oaldamster seems all fired up and it's just amazing to find him writing again. Just so you know, he's been the first Dutch Steemian I've met and got very close to. Huge hearted person - very generous.. I'm forever grateful I've met him here. Seeing him writing again reminds me of the sun .. it's back in the Netherlands, too.. shining bright on a daily basis.

On the contrary with, I have been away since the sun had been up. Well, I've got two gardens to attend to and I realized it's becoming quite a challenge.

Since the sun has been shining brightly and the heavens have hushed from weeping I've been out gardening. Pulling all the weeds, removing the moss that have grown and fed on the damp during the cold days and cutting the inward growth of the bushes and fruiting trees have kept me busy again these days.

Yesterday was just another day of such days. I didn't notice the time.. I just knew it was time to go back home not because of the dark but because even the blackbirds have stopped singing. This was what the horizon look like when we left the "volkstuin" or the public garden last night. I wasn't done weeding but hubby's tummy was already asking for food so we left. Me? I could go on till 10 pm as I did in summer without eating - that's how addicted I am in gardening .. very.

Since I am also such a Steemit addict, I didn't let a few events that took place in my garden in the "volkstuin " slip either.

Here.... take a peek on what I woke up snoozing under the ground. Oh well, it's officially spring .. time to wake up anyway.

I do hope it survives - it looked pretty freaked out but no worries I didn't hurt the guy. More weeding and trimming the inward growth of the gooseberries, redberries and having transplanted all 10 young apple trees in the ground was really fun.

I was supposed to throw these nettles away when I remember ...

Saved by @ocrdu and @papa-pepper :)

Oh, I've also brought home a few more dandelions I'm growing in pots I transplanted today. I'm growing both the sting nettles and the dandelions in pots cause they could get invasive and I don't want that. My pronoia has worked again, I found out that the young bush I thought was a blue berry in my new garden is actually a bay tree so I dug it up and brought it home. Now I won't have to keep buying bay leaves. I could just pick them fresh out of my garden. I'll just have to figure out where to dig up a place for it in my pretty crowded backyard.

Now, am a bit dead tired and my muscles are aching from all the digging, transplanting all ten apples but da heck with it ...
Yes, it's the weekend I could have just gone shopping and play with my friends, too but I've got things on schedule and this one is quite a priority these days. Yes, too it's Monday and right after I got the free time I went straight to my back yard to transplant the plum and cherry and sow the seeds that could be sown now. I'm far away from being done .. I still have so much to do so if you don't see me around .. that's cause I'm in my garden trying to kick off - this other addiction.

Oh, I'd still try to do my best to cast upvotes - now that the power to influence a post has been given to us. I say ... take advantage and I shall, too!

How about you ... how have you been spending your weekend?

I hope you had a great one.

I took all of the pics with my Samsung A3 2016 edition.

Can't you use your husband as a gardening slave to move things along? 8-)

BTW Here's a butterfly laying strings of eggs on a nettle:

I hope one finds your saved nettle!

I just went to the park this weekend, where somebody else does all the gardening, very convenient.

@ocrdu he was doing the same -
we're both gardening like crazy yesterday
he was doing the heavier works than I was -
plus the higher branches - you know am just 5'2 :D
the trees here are like you - Dutch pips

Dang girl. Your garden is massive. And that toad, what a giant fellow. I hope you don't wake up one night with him ribbitting on your pillow!!

@meesterboom it is .. all I could do there in the end yesterday was weed, sown a few seeds but not even half done
I still have to cut the inward growth of the pears I got in there, I just managed to finish the red berries and 1 goose berries .. the cranberries need to do some singing .. I mean - trimming, too haha

if that toad goes ribbitting on my pillow I'd be ewwwwdd hahahha

It's a lot of work. You will need a team of workers to get through that!! I have Gods in my garden too just blue near the size of that horror!!

@meesterboom hmm.. it ends till that green house ..
but yes it's a lot of work .. but the harvest is going to be huge as well haha

I let my chickens weed and fertilize the garden, it's ready for planting! The girls won't be happy when I move them back into their run!

Huge gardens girl, good luck!

@reddust thank you
I got no chickens and we're not allowed to have any there :D
they invite mice and rats and those could damage the crops
it would surely be handy having chickens .. that's food :D

Yeah I have broblems with rats, I'm setting out traps this week. Here in the Tulsa city we can have 6 chickens. Our old rat terrier can't see the vermin or he would kill the buggers!

@reddust I'd like to have chickens .. my grandparents had them in the yard but we had no rats nor mice in the house it was even in the countryside but I think it was also because of the cats.

We had cats and all of our neighbors, too - I guess that's why.
I wish you luck with those pests..

Well, that was a nice suprise @englishtchrivy...

Thank you very much for your kind words dear 'busy bee' Ivy. ;-) Happy and thankfull that I met you at this marvelous place called Steem! And I'm gratefull for your support and appreciation.

Huge garden you have there, and I know that it is one of your true passions. And with spring here you can do what you like to do dearly. Time management, is what comes to mind, if you want to keep up with Steem too. :-)

Had nettle tea once from fresh plucked ones, drank it because it seems to be healthy, but it is not really my cup of tea...

Enjoy the sun and gardening en keep up your Steem work!
And relax from time to time. ;-)

Kind regards from the north!

@oladamster I have nettle tea from pyramide but it doesn't taste good
but it's okay .. I added ginger - it helps filter the kidney, not that I have any problem but all the tea and coffee residue have to be flushed out, too haha

I learned from @cynetyc that we could also cook it - like that of a sweet potato leaves. Just got them on the pot right now, my friends would laugh again if they see it but I really want to harvest those peacock butterfly eggs so the heck with all the laughter hahah

Yes, it's going to eat my time these days, so not sure I'd be posting much .. my muscles are aching now but surely can still upvote haha

Yes, for cleaning the kidneys. Fresh handpicket from the woods, easy as pie, wearing gloves. :-)
Ginger is a good idea, maybe we will try it again soon.

Cooked nettles? They give me a kind of spinache idea. Guess they have a lot of iron in them.

Take your time and I hope your muscles feel better soon. Heard that cafeinne works good when you have muscle ache.

Almost bedtime here, so whishing good night!

@oaldamster thank you .. slaap lekker
yes.. I'm guessing they would taste like spinach for now - those teeny tiny nettles have to grow hard first :D

good luck with the nettle tea you might want to add milk and honey with it .. I tried one time .. sort'a tasted close to a macha but then with a weird after taste :D

{NL} Dankje @englishtchrivy!

Will have another go at them nettles. :-)

But for now Zzzzzzzzzzzzz

Thank you for posting @englishytchrivy.

Lovely photographs and commentary. Sounds like you have have loads of fun.....bleujays idea of fun anyway.

Looking forward to hearing all about it....do let us know if someone discovers the frog is a prince. ^_^

All the best. A bientot.

@bleujay .. thank you!

yes I had so much fun .. I didn't really want to stop but my body says so ..

as for that fat toad .. uhmmm I tried kissing it but you saw he ran away wahahahha

I must be scary ^ ^

nice close-ups. I too am addicted to gardening :-)

spring has sprung here in zone 6b but we are getting 18-24 inches of snow tonight and tomorrow!! whaaaah!

@gardenlady thanks!
snow in spring oh no!
that sucks .. we're getting 16 degrees on Friday and I can't wait for that to happen already! ^ ^

@englishtchrivy, Mostly, I have to play with my kid every weekend. So enjoy your spare weekend time.

@helene thank you ..
playing with kids kept me young looking .. I miss that so good luck with yours ..
I hope you guys have such a quality time~

I understand that addiction to gardening. When I lived with my mother and sun was shining I also enjoy to go out and remove weeds, pet the cats and take lots of photos :)

This weekend I didn't cook!! Ahah, I went for a walk (actually it were two: one on Sunday and another bigger on Saturday. I'll post it asap!)

@liliana.duarte I'm glad you shared what you did ..
not everyone seem to see those questions
they only saw the toad hihi and the nettles

Ups, I didn't pay attention to those...I don't like frogs and hate nettles (bad tingle experience) ;) See, there's a lot of different interests on Steemit :p

@liliana.duarte the toad is cute - its very fat and the nettles have another story ..
different indeed - which makes it more fun otherwise its a bore if we're all the same ;)

The chubby Toad is lucky not to get to meet the shovel up close and personal. Seems to be the less for wear from it all. Thanks for sharing your garden adventures. Hard work, but when the produce comes in, all worth the while.

@ddschteinn thanks
you bet it was lucky .. but damn it was playing hard to get
I was trying to give it a smooch and it ran away .. he must have thought I'm flagging him hehe

I remember that storybook read well, from when I was a much shorter person..."The Flagged Toad Who Got No Kisses"

Last Saturday, did some volunteer work at Community Play Day.

@ace108 oh that's a charitable way to spend your weekend...
what did you do?
I hope you had fun!

Was taking registration for people participating in water activities. Took some photos but haven't got to piecing together a post

@ace108 That sounds like quite a task specially if there's a lot of participants I hope you had fun!
Looking forward for the pics!
Keep me posted when they're up !
