30 Days of Indonesia #29 // Klepon
Day 29!
Who's as excited as me for Friday the 15th, raise your hands 🙋♀️🙋♂️🙋♂️🙋♀️
Am super excited for party time, because, food, you know. Glorious Indonesian foods 🤣
What is not fun, since in Canada Eid is obviously not a national holiday, my husband will be working that day while my son will be going to school. We can only have the party when everyone is home, which is around 5 PM 🤣
What are you talking about, TKF???
Well, if you are a follower, you would know that I have been doing this 30 Days of Indonesia series, where I share traditional sweets/desserts from Indonesia as it is Ramadhan at the moment, a holy fasting month for the Moslem, and majority of Indonesia are Moslem. They fast for 29-30 days, from dawn to dusk, and they break their fast with sweets. After 29/30 days, they would have a huge feast called Eid starting from dawn and lasts for 2-3 days, and it is a national holiday there, for those 2-3 days. There you go 😊
I am doing this series not just for Ramadhan though, but also to promote Indonesia through sweets 🤣 Because I have a fat face 😉
Anyhoo, here is Day 29 and I have cake balls that are known as Klepon. Made of yams, filled with sugar, and coated with desiccated coconut.
To see previous days on this series, please scroll down after the Indonesian translation. I do have to mention that I did not update for 3 days as I was out of town, so some dates are missing ✌
ingredients
- 180-200 g yams/sweet potato, steam then mash
- 150 g glutinous rice flour
- 3 tbsp cornstarch
- a generous pinch of salt
- coconut palm sugar, as needed (or brown sugar)
- enough water for boiling
coating
- 1/2-3/4 c unsweetened desiccated coconut
- 1/2 tsp salt (adjust to your liking, the coating should be slightly salty)
- 1/2-1 tbsp water
how to
- bring enough water to boil
- mix dry ingredients then knead in hot mashed yams until pliable
- take about 1-2 tbsp dough, flatten, and place coconut sugar in center, seam to seal and shape into balls
- drop balls into boiling water and cook until floating (about 8-10 mins)
- meanwhile, mix coconut, water, salt and microwave for 1 min
- take out balls with slotted spoon and roll on coconut
Enjoy!
Woo-hoo, dah mau Lebaran. Angkat tanganmu kalau kamu sudah ga sabar seperti halnya aku 🙋♀️🙋♂️🙋♀️🙋♂️
Sayangnya seperti tahun2 kemarin, disini Lebaran seperti hari biasa saja karena bukan tanggal merah dan bukan hari nasional, jadi suamiku tetap bekerja dan anakku tetap sekolah 😅 Jadi kami seringnya kumpul2nya setelah semua dah dirumah, yaitu jam 5 sore 🤣 Kadang kami merayakannya pas hari esoknya jika kebetulan Lebaran jatuh pada hari jumat, jadi pas hari pekan, pas semua ada dirumah. Nasib 🤣
Hari ini aku bikin klepon, tapi bukan pandan sih, melainkan ubi jalar. Tetap enaklah, soalnya kan klepin emang beragam yak, dari labu kuning ada, ubi ungu pun ada.
Yuk ditengok resepnya kalau tertarik
bahan2
- 180-200 g ubi jalar, kukus, haluskan
- 150 g tepung beras ketan
- 3 sdm maizena
- sejumput garam
- gula palem (atau gula merah) secukupnya
- air untuk merebus
- 3/4 gelas kelapa parut siap pakai
- 1/2 sdt garam (atau seperlunya)
- sedikit air
cara membuat
- rebus air hingga mendidih
Jadi deh
