My Thursday Favorites #2.03 Contest Entry – My Favorite Class at School

My favorite class at school is 99% of those I took. I love going to school and have been to so many I cannot count them. I went to 16 schools before graduating high school. After that, I have attended a few colleges and universities for degrees. Finally, I have also been to all kinds of schools for specialized certificates and designations I needed for various jobs over the years.

If someone ever wants to send me to a school to learn something, I want to go. It’s a place of steadiness, where I always know what to do, unlike real life, lol.

It’s easier for me to tell you the classes I do not like. This is anything picky and technical such as statistics and computer programming. I have taken classes in both of those subjects more than once, and they are not for me. Someone else can find the answer in a bunch of minutia and I will take it from there.

I like getting broad knowledge in any subject at all. One class I took for one of my accounting degrees was about the political and physical development of city states in medieval Europe. I only took it because it fit in my schedule and I needed a humanities class. A few of the 20 students were history majors and the rest were like me, just needing the hours.

So many people hated that class! It was very difficult with dense subject matter and huge amounts of high-level reading material. The professor would talk for the entire three hours of each class, giving even more information about things like sewer line installation.

I was fascinated and even thought I would like to go into urban planning after this. The three exams were super hard and I got a hard earned "B" even through I am a mostly "A" student. So I stayed the course and became an accountant as expected.

I also took a class in bowling for another degree. It was on Saturday mornings, and I learned the history of bowling, how to score, the details of a bowling alley, and even learned how to do the sport very badly!

Luckily your bowling score was not a part of the grade. You just needed to bowl two games each week. You did not need to have any type of good score; only completion of the task.

We were ranked with students of similar skill levels for the bowling part and I was down with the losers on Lane One. My athletic husband of the time was up at the top of the ranks getting strikes. I think I had more fun with the girls worried about losing their fake fingernails and rolling the ball into the gutter.

I like all school because it is an open and shut case. Every school and class is the same. Come to class for some period of time and pay attention. Do whatever they want you to do for assignments and tests. Boom! It’s over and you got a good grade. Tick it off your list and go on to the next. What could be more satisfying than that?
