The Deadpost Initiative - Week 13 - Share your most undervalued work + week 12 winners ($10 STEEM prize pool)

in #contest6 years ago

What is the Deadpost Intitiative?

The Deadpost Initiative is an attempt to give love to some posts that were overlookeed during their short 7 day life span, a chance to bring your old posts back to life and maybe make some friends in the process. The goal is not only to share some love with SBD but also by engagement to generate discussion.

Last week

Woah, these posts keep getting better and better. Tell your friends about the deadpost, when we get a high upvote on this post there are more prizes to go around, you guys really deserve more for these posts.

One thing I need to bring mention

Try to start from the bottom sometimes when searching through other deadposts. Also, if possible, come twice a week, once later to see if there is anything good that has been added. I know it's a lot to ask but there are some good posts that get ignored because they weren't one of the first to post and the biggest factor in how I decide a winner is the quality of comments.

Just something to keep in mind!

Last Week's Winners

@fireawaymarmot - $ 4 STEEM prize

@fireawaymarmot dropped an incredibly written story from his youth. I honestly felt bad I couldn't give away more steem for this one. It was phenomenal. The story is easy to relate to as it explores the complexities of dealing with others, especially when money is involved. If you haven't read it, DO!

I Do My Part By Making You Do It

@pathforger - $ 2 STEEM prize

Perhaps our most consistent provider of quality deadposts yet, @pathforger does it again with an encouraging piece on a topic that hits home for many. He gives some good tips to deal with depression and shares some of his own story.

Considering Suicide? Let Me Try To Ease and Immunize You.

@eaglespirit - $ 2 STEEM prize

@eaglespirit gives a nice instruction manual for making a Native American hand drum with lots of pictures. I've been following her since I read it and find the things she shares about her culture to be fascinating. Check out her recent posts as well!

Choosing a Native American Hand Drum with Video

@fishyculture - $ 2 STEEM prize

@fishyculture brings up an important point with a post on the politics of what we eat. I always wondered how schools were considered qualified to teach us about nutrition and health when there were soda vending machines throughout the school and sugar and oil filled foods in the cafeteria. This post hits on a similar point. Very nice.

Mmmm.... What Does Liberty Taste Like Where You Live?

Yay! Thank you so much for last weeks win .. I'm going to give more .. since most of mine have been DEAD for the last month, and thank you so much for this initiative. Most importantly for your support and follow. Woop. xx

Here is my DEADpost for #20:

https://steemit.com/photography/@eaglespirit/colorado-lake-and-spout

Nice pictures! We also have waterfalls in our place but yours have warmer colors.

Thank you so much for your appreciation. Where are you from? Maybe it’s just the way the sun is hitting them?

I'm from the Philippines..Most of the trees here have green leaves..Only a few have red or orange leaves..

I’d love to see photos. You probably already know, the leaves only change during the autumn and fall seasons.

Wow, even more beauty! I like the way you capture the colour and beauty of nature. I can't wait till the snow leaves and I can take pictures with colour again, right now its all black and white by nature :P

Hey @skycae thank you so much for your vote and appreciation for my photos. Yay!! I can't wait to see your photos. Big hugs,

Beautiful photographs, the last one was my favorite.

I'd have to agree with the others.

These are some nice pictures of an awesome location. :c)

Such are sufficient to inspire appreciation of them - even without the kind of love for nature that you have.

This also has my vote.

Thank you so much @pathforger! Hope you are well and having great week. xx

That last one reminds me of some scenery that I see in my mind when I play one of my songs. I love it. And also the water!

Oooo beautiful!! I love that, what music do you play?

What a great initiative @whatamidoing although I’ve had some successes with this series, the inaugural post really fell flat.
Your initiative encourages commenting which can sometimes go further than the monetary reward of an upvote.
Thanks for sponsoring this.

This was a touching story. That you allow the posts of others to trigger nostalgia within you is also a very nice concept that I can kind of relate to. :c)

Its amazing how a simple question can change a person's life.

This has my vote.

Thanks for the comment. Yes, it is amazing how a simple question can change a person’s life.

SDG

I enjoyed this story because an unrelated (yet related) incident recently happened in my girlfriend's life, although she did need a little encouragement from me .... to ask a question of someone who she's been terrified of asking for years. Said person's answer was music to her ears. Wish I could explain more, but let's just say it was a family affair. Yikes...I've said too much ;)

Intriguing reply @steemmeupscotty. It will be our little secret. Oh, wait, it’s on the Steemit Blockchain for eternity. Yikes, indeed! ; )

SDG

That is pretty amazing that he felt strong enough to ask for her contact and that they ended up together. That’s a true magnetic pull!

Not only contacting her @whatamidoing, but within 3 months he actually went to visit her in Singapore for a week. Someone that had NEVER done any international traveling.

SDG

Thanks for the opportunity and the support.
This is one of my first posts when I started Steemit in November, 2017. Enjoying seeing others work.
Hope you like some of mine.

You can just post a link to it and a description if you want. Edit your comment so you can keep the .16 upvote which will come give you an advantage later in the week ;-P

Sorry I'm still trying to learn these tricks.
Thank you very much for your comments and information.

I will be following you now.
Thanks again!
@ohicklin

Hey, I have photos of all those locations!! LOL
I'll beat you to writing a blog on them ... Hee hee
:p Just kidding!! And this is not one of my comments ...

Yes, I imagine there are quite a few photos of these spots if anyone has been to Yosemite with a camera in their hand.
Its a goldmine for a photo hound.

It definitely is, plus I was born and raised in SF so Yosemite was a playground. I'm going to post a winter hike I did at Yosemite soon. I was there twice a month before I left again. Your photos are great!

Thanks. Look forward to seeing yours!

This is really beautiful, waterfalls have a captivating alure. Someone told me recently that they make the ions in the atmosphere more friendly to our bodies health (though they said it with more scientific terms lol). Maybe that is why monks are always depicted meditating under waterfalls?

Water in general, but mostly waterfalls seem to be one of my favorite places to find.
I guess most of us are naturally drawn to water.

The pictures were breath taking. I wonder why it only had a few upvotes before..keep it up!

I had no idea it was the standard for all future national parks :-o

Cool to stumble upon this contest, and happy to take part. Here's my second post ever on steemit..a kinda true-life, fictional foray into the way my mind works. Hope you like it :)

https://steemit.com/blog/@steemmeupscotty/time-travelling-selfie-dude-at-early-beatles-concert

Great story @steemmeupscotty. The way you came to pause on the movie and the use of the photos to make your case. The whole post was formatted well. It should have done better, but that’s the way it can go.
Every once in a while I see a post by someone that tells about the number of people that joined Steemit 1 year ago and then tells the number that are still active. It usually goes something like 100 people joined 1 yr ago and 7 are currently active. Hopefully you’ll hang around for the long term.
Reminds me of

Isaiah 40:8
The grass withers and the flowers fall,
but the word of our God endures forever. ”

Your story is on the Blockchain and maybe someday you can travel back in time and read it when you wrote it!

SDG

Hey @sighmanjestah ... Thanks so much for reading my post! I'm happy you enjoyed it too. Steemit's funny, 'cause when I joined I had no idea 'how to blog' or even what I could contribute to the platform. Somehow over the past 6 months, it's ignited a passion for photography, and I've kinda become obsessed with my new shutterbug passion, which I am grateful for as it allows me to express a creative side I was previously unaware of.

Saying that I'm sure at some point I'll combine more writing with my photography to create more of a photojourno kinda feed ;) But who knows? The possibilities are endless here and I'm sure even strange, abstract and strange, small niches will find an audience.

An yeah, hopefully, I will be able to travel back in time to read my story but I'd prefer to see the Beatles live ;)

Have a great day and Steem on!

cause when I joined I had no idea 'how to blog' or even what I could contribute to the platform.

That’s pretty much how I felt when I first started. I’m an avid reader and have this strange desire to write, but I hate to write. What? Yeah, I know crazy, but Steemit has helped me overcome that hating to write and I’m now working at learning how to write. Might take me the rest of my life to get there.
It’s great that you’ve found a passion for photography and are growing with it. Best of luck to you.

Time travel is one of those things that you 'want' to believe in. I personally don't (or rather I am leaning against such being a possibility) but that didn't stop me from enjoying your story - and the way that you drew bits and pieces of reality to corroborate your narrative. :c)

I frankly feel that it would be a cooler World were such to be so - but I've yet to discover where the Delorean is hidden. ;c)

This has my vote.

Cheers for the feedback! Now I'm in the mood to watch 'Back to the Future' for the zillionth time ;)

Hello! This is a pretty cool contest. I remember the very first days on Steemit, only a few short months ago, when I didn't really get the formatting of posts or what it was all about.

Here is an introduction into a series of posts I hope to revive very soon, but it did not get any attention at all, and such an interesting subject!

https://steemit.com/mythology/@skycae/the-fair-folk-origins-and-invasions-part-1

Wow, how I loved your post and so happy you put it in here. I love fairies, elves and anything Irish. Of course you might hear me say that about many cultures, but I am part Celt so any type of sharing in this area is so wonderful to me. I do not know much about that side of my heritage and not all stories are written down so thank you for sharing. xx

I am part celt too, and of all of those places the Irish myths and stories are the least christianized, and are really rich. I will be sure to share more, the stories get really deep! I am stoked to get into the part where they are transformed into the sidhe by being banished to the underworld/otherworld.

Yes, I almost feel like i have to be in a quite room and meditating almost to be able to fully appreciate the entire story. I loved it .. i will definitely read it again when things are not so busy. We just got home from a night away and i was trying to write in between. I wanted to make sure to read your post one time through. It was very detailed. (:

Yeah its not even half of my essay lol. I went a little nuts with the details and honestly I am not even satisfied with it! Bard Mythologies has the stories on audio, so you can listen. It helped me a ton to be able to listen to them like a bedtime story!

You will love the research I do about bards, poets and druids then!

Dang! And H yes!! I can’t wait to read them. xx

It's a insightful story you present . I hope you continue. To me it looks like the Tuatha de Danan people are being chased nowadays, too.

Thanks :) I shall! I guess they are being chased, or more like less and less people believe in them. Though, I dont think they mind haha.

This is lovely initiative! I will upvote and resteem it, and here is my dead post, I hope someone will like it ;-)

https://steemit.com/writing/@hidden84/becoming-a-writer-seven-golden-tips-for-beginners

Hi @hidden84, this post certainly was undervalued and filled with valuable advice. Even though I came to steemit with the idea that writing would 'be my thing', I've somehow morphed more into a photographer, which believe it or not, actually takes up far more time 'for me' than if I sat at my comp churning out words. That's not to say I won't be doing more writing in the future because I'd really like to try my hand at that again, with original photos included. Anyways, you wrote a great post which did deserve more attention so you've got my upvote and follow. Cheers and Steem on!

I know exactly what you are talking about - I also came here for writing, and now it looks like I will end in crowdsourcing and urban planning. This place is incredible. Thank you for upvote and follow. I followed you too and hope we will have many opportunities for discussions in future! :-)

For sure :) Nice to 'meet' you! :)

hello everyone! Let me share to you my post on my top 10 favorite food in my place...hope you like it!

https://steemit.com/philippines/@wandergirl/my-top-10-favorite-cebuano-delicacies

This is one of the most undervalued and coolest contests on Steemit! Thanks for running it. Here's a heartfelt ♥ poem I wrote two months ago with original art by me. Please give it a look here , https://steemit.com/poetry/@emptyintentions/burn-me-to-whispers-in-the-wind

Thanks!- @emptyintentions

Holy Cow! I really really loved your poem. I felt it in my heart and soul. Truly. I feel that a woman/person who has been deeply in love to the inner core knows what this feel like and I felt a loss too. It is something that never goes away and will always be. It is there in the soul living and breathing. It has become a part of us. Thank you so much for re-sharing this to Steemit! Your fellow DeadPoster, Casandra. xx

Thank you. Your sweet comment made my day

You’re welcome.

Thanks very much @whatamidoing for the prize for last weeks contest, as well as all of the people who voted for my post. Good luck to everyone this week, as well!

Would you please tell us HOW to submit our dead-post?
For many new folks it's the very simple things that confuse us.
Do we simply include the link in a comment to THIS post or is there another way to submit? Or did I completely miss the obvious (that's happened before).
Thanks you for a great initiative.

Just post the link to your original post in the comments section here.

Thank you. That's clear.
