A Favorite Freewrite

Every Tuesday, you have a chance to win a membership to Steem Basic Income, SBI, at the Freewrite House.

Try to win one, my friends. An everlasting vote on your posts is nothing to sneeze at.

We want to make it super easy for you. Your task is to tell us in the comment section about one - or more- freewrites of others you have read in the last couple of days you really liked. Yup, not your own!!

Remember the comment must be at least 50 words long - no upper limit 🤪

See the rules below for details.

In an ideal world, you also give that person a nice upvote - but we are not going to check on that.

So, to be entered into the drawing, tell us about a freewrite you really liked and why. Choose from the last couple of days so others can go, visit inspired by your description, and leave a vote.

I would like to recommend @happycrazycon's FreeWrite for the prompt potbellied. It is based on a true story. Sad because it's about loss of a loved one, hope because it's about how the mind copes and love because it's how things fall into place so you can move forward in life.

And I am going to recommend custodian of FreeWriteHouse @mariannewest for her prompt cancer.... only because most of us including me of course would think of the That C Word. But she went somewhere else with it 😊

I have two favorite freewrites this week.

The first is by @tristancarax for his freewrite on Squash. Reading it got me hungry. I though it was clever how he kept writing about "squashing squash", grilling it with herbs and turning it into something delicious. It reminded me about the squash fritters I love so much. Sure, it's not the same thing, but what he wrote about sounded delicious, just the same.

The second is by @wordymouth for his Refrigerator Poetry. The poem itself was eerily beautiful. But the way it was presented was just so creative. I loved how there were "extra" words just scattered around the poem, itself. As one of the comments in the post mentioned, it really embodies the idea of a "freewrite".

Today I want to nominate the writer and poet @milrosas. She introduced a very interesting and well developed free text on the theme "Cancer". She has participated actively in the Spanish Freewrite project and has presented very good works, this time is not different because it is not only the way the subject worked, graphically describing the experiences of the sufferer of this disease, but using a beautiful prose that It makes reading pleasant.

I would like to recommend as my favorite freewrite a very powerful freewrite poem written by the talented the poetess, @tezmel. The poem is written as a letter to her mother country of Africa and speaks out in forceful language regarding grievous injustices foisted upon the country's people by greedy, opportunistic leaders who sje refers to as "potbellied Jones" who are bleeding the people of resources and hope. In spite of feeling both the anger and pain and loss she documents, she leaves the reader with a glimmer of hope for a better future. This poem is so well executed and emotive while conveying an urgent and timely message all will appreciate her eloquence, passion and craft.

I would like to nominate @josephinengpy for having the boldness and courage to write the freewrite prompt - cancer - that might made her cry or tear. Something so close to her life and heart, her mother who lost the fight to cancer, but never lost her race in life. Josephine is my friend and I have seen how she is determined to continue to grow as a person with joy despite losing her mother at young age. My salute goes all to her. Please show her some love as she still misses her mother every single day.

I looked in Day 277 for my favorites today, and the prompt word is cancer. So many people wrote on this topic! I went to the bottom of the comments and opened the first ten or so, and was not even one third of the way up the page.

I first wished I had not chosen this topic, since I need to be uplifted right now. And then - this is exactly what happened and I feel better as I found wonderful inspiration. I could not pick one, so I have these three.

@jk6276 is speaking of his aunt and her struggles with two loved ones passing on from this disease. The phrase that resonates with me the most is "my Aunt carried herself with amazing dignity, despite what many would see as cruel twists of fate that life dealt her."
Day 277: 5 Minute Freewrite: Monday - Prompt: cancer (my freewrite 18)

@tristancarax speaks from the heart with strong words. This part is why my name is fitinfun: "Don't miss out on life. Fun can be found in the diseased world."
5 Minute Freewrite: Monday - Prompt: cancer

@elizacheng speaks of her father's win against cancer. He said at the time of his illness, "Just treat me as a normal person." This is what we all want, I think.

And Eliza posted some wonderful photos of healthy food in her post. I will soon be in her city and staying near where she works. I hope and feel sure that we will be having lunch one day soon and I will count on Eliza to point me to the healthy food.

All in all, this was a great stop to improve my day.

2 @fitinfun

glad that it ended up lifting your spirits!!! And you are going to meet @Elizacheng!!! Lucky you!!!

Seeing your SoCal meetup I also wish I am there too!

Thanks for the shoutout! And we should definitely meetup for lunch when you are here.

I was searching #freewrite and ran across this beauty by @marie-jay hidden amongst the 3 part weekend #freewrites. This is a great story about a young child saved from an abusive relationship. It's a must read, because I know this probably goes on daily. The ending leaves me wondering what could have happened...

One of the fun things about the Tuesday favorites is seeing the links to so many of the recommended posts that I didn't happen to read! This week I would like to mention four freewrites.
https://steemit.com/freewrite/@kaerpediem/freewrite-was-it-a-mishap-or-an-invitation by @kaerpediem is both sad and moving because variations of that story play themselves out every day, everywhere. One mistake, or a series of mistakes, and there are unintended consequences.
https://steemit.com/freewrite/@marcoriccardi/blues-5-minute-freewrite-day-272 by @marcoriccardi caught my attention because I like many varieties of music, and I learned some things by reading what he wrote.
https://steemit.com/freewrite/@tristancarax/day-90-5-minute-freewrite-sunday-prompt-potbellied by @tristancarax made me laugh, and I was ready for a good chuckle. There is so much that can be read between the lines!
https://steemit.com/freewrite/@byn/hide-and-seek by @byn is gripping and scary. I got sucked right into that short story, and could smell and hear everything she described. I can't say that was a pleasant experience, but it means it was well-written!

I have two favorites. First is the freewrite by @marcoriccardi using the prompt: dog breath. He has the uncanny ability to make me ponder and this one was no exception. If you were able to go to a place where your brain could be conditioned a certain way, would you do it? And what happens when that conditioning goes awry and spreads like a virus? If you want to find out, you must read about it.

@kimberlylane has a gift of describing things in detail which makes you feel as if you were right there with her. I could see, feel, smell, which in this case wasn't very pleasant but it sure was a great read, gripping me from the beginning to end. If you want to know in great detail of what she found inside and old house, be sure to read "Who's House Doesn't Stink?"

Contest closed. Winner will be announced shortly.
