Dungeon and Steem

All of the travellers have safely arrived to their checkpoints. How will they deal with the massive rain that has occurred today? Meanwhile @thatsweeneyguy went in to engage on yet another camp chieftain. Check out was his fate was. Also @sircork, today’s post image is for you. Nice try my friend :P.

Whoever reaches 400 points first wins!

What is DnS

You’re witnessing my humble try for transmission of unique DnD like gameplay onto the Steemit’s platform. All the players have all the freedom in the world to choose their next actions. The only obstacle is the ruthless Dungeon Master (that would be me) trying to kill them at every other corner. Only the best (and the luckiest) ones were able to survive up to this point. The previous chapter can be found at the end of this post.

Action plan

One the first night of our journey, after we have made camp, I will have the mages line up A-E with their swords and shields in hand. One by one, I will engage them in melee battle briefly so that I can get a feel for their skill. The I will have them demonstrate their archery skills for me. The two mages whom I judge to be best with sword and shield will be part of our shield wall and will be stationed on the flanks one on each side of Makhel and I. The remaining three mages, and hopefully the best archers, will be stationed behind the shield wall to engage with ranged weapons. We will practice this formation, shifting left, right, advancing and retreating as a unit. We will practice the bowmen dropping bows and readying shield and sword and rushing forward, or a flanking attack on command. We will practice the mages forming earthen barricades when and where I command while attacking as a unit. They will show how they can combine for a single large barricade or smaller individual barricades scattered in an area. Makhel and I will also practice melee, ranged and hand to hand combat with them. We will drill like this for two hours every evening. When we reach the cave opening we will make our way to my friend camp. We will move slowly and quietly through the forest with Makhel and I scouting ahead. We will avoid contact if possible until we get close to the camp of my friend. When we get close to the camp, Makhel and I will try to sneak close to the camp, avoiding any sentries, and try to see if we can see my friend and make contact if possible.

Result

You decided to spend the time in the tunnels effectively. From the very first day of the journey you started drilling. It soon turned out that Arle and Goyrus are the most suitable mages for the shield formation. That left Dagen, Antalem and Fronden in the back. It seemed to you like you had to teach them everything from the scratch, but luckily they mostly were able to comprehend what you were trying to convey and learned fast. At the end, you were satisfied with your unit. They wouldn’t be any match for real Orcish warriors and if you were to find any, you and Makhel would need to do the hard work, but for ordinary Orcs they would be a challenge now. The melee fight could go anyway really. The biggest advantage is that you were able to show them how to react in combat to something as huge as yourself. You also informed them that you do not want to go directly to the Orcish main city, but rather go back to where you came from and recruit your friend too.

After the long “training camp” you finally emerged to the daylight. The same old place where you have waited from quite some time for the dead Humans. You informed your current mages that you will scout ahead and that they are supposed to follow from a safe distance. Midway through the day you and Makhel heard voices. You immediately signalled to him to stop, but some of the branches below you gave your position away with a loud crunching. The voices immediately stopped. There was no one charging you, but you didn’t like the situation one bit.

@thatsweeneyguy

Points: 292

Inventory: double-headed axe of high quality, one tiny dagger attached to your boot. Backpack, big canteen(2), pouch for coins (35), (hit), food (2)

Group: Jukha(3) - pouch of water(1), food (2), (better at sneaking now), dagger, (hit- left hand – strength halved), Onehanded axe

Gat(7) - pouch of water(1), food (2), dagger, Double-headed battle axe of high quality

Karguk(4) - pouch of water(1), food (2), dagger, (hit- left hand – strength halved), one handed axe

Elf – Bow, ???

Dictionary: 20 Orcish words

Engagement plan

I direct the elf to take up a position in the trees again. As he does this, I will sneak around to the back of the chieftan's hut. Upon my signal, the elf will fire upon the guards. As soon as they turn toward the trees to react, I will quickly cleave into the skull of the one closest to me, then the other if it's still standing.

Before the chieftan can get outside his hut, I will sneak back around to behind the hut, waiting for the elf to fire at the chieftan upon his exit. Once again, my axe will taste blood as I run around to bury my axe into his back.

Result

You decided that only you along with the Elf will participate in the killing of this leader. The remaining members of the family protected by Makhel have been left further in the forest and were supposed to await your arrival. You have sent Elf to the higher levels of the forest and waited before he has found a place for a clear shot at the guard standing at the right side of the hut. You started sneaking beside the left side. (DICE ROLL) You were sneaking closer and closer to your target, but when you were almost in a striking range a crunching branch gave you away. It was time to improvise. Without signalling the Elf to attack you have quickly charged the Orc. (DICE ROLL) The Orc though had time to prepare for the attack and managed to dodge it. He immediately tried to strike back at you (DICE ROLL) but was as effective as you were. The guard on the other side of the hut heard the noise and ran to help his comrade (DICE ROLL), while an arrow scratched his torso. You managed to strike one more time before you would be double teamed (DICE ROLL) barely hitting the foes left leg. The Orc in his battle rage attacked back severing your left hand. While you were confusedly inspecting the stub of yours, your consciousness was forced out of your body by yet another swing of a battle-axe. DEAD

@thatmemeguy

Points: 116

Inventory: Double-headed axe of high quality on your back, 2 daggers at your belt and one tiny dagger attached to your boot. Pouch of water (1)

Abilities: Remembered 3 easy formulas of random spells and 1 advanced formula

Army: Around 245 Orcs, 5 “Warlocks”

Action plan

AFter taking a careful consideration of my route I decide to take the scouts shorter route to get to the wall. Before going towards the wall, after waking up all of my troops I give them this speech.

„Brothers , we are near the end of our goal, those tyrants that have looked down and treated us like nothing WILL NEVER AGAIN BE OUR MASTERS , WE ARE THE MASTERS OF OUR FATE !“

And the march begins towards the scouts route to the wall. While going there we'll keep the same line formation with scouts up front and the back , also we'll manage our resources so we can have enough to reach the wall. If we find a water source, I'll send a platoon (24 orcs) to get water while the rest guards and camps.

Result

The next day was here and with it the time to march. Soon the need to gather some more provisions will come. You estimated that they will last for about 1-3 days. Before the department of the army you gave them a motivation speech. You haven’t really been challenged since the raid of the Orcish camp, but keeping the morale up can never hurt. Throughout the day your scouts, not the main column didn’t come across any hostiles. It has started to feel a bit strange and some of the Orcs decided to share their concerns with you. The platoon you have sent for the water returned with bare hands. No known source of water was nearby. After the whole day of travelling it was yet again time to settle down. You have used the same strategy for guards as you have the days before. Next mourning your rebellious army woke up to a heavy rain.

Action plan

With Terene and Reen gone and the bizarre encounter with the alternate being rattling our senses, we briefly collect ourselves, but decide that to stay in one place is more dangerous than to keep moving at least for now, out here, in unknown open space. At first I consider burning Terene's body but decide against the visible plume of smoke. We instead decide to gather stones and build a sort of crypt over the body, with little other choice and no digging tools on hand to dig a grave. We thus find what we can and cover the body, and then use our remaining energy in an attempt to use the earth spell magic to complete covering the body with dirt as best we can. Should this not work, we will be forced to simply leave our friend and comrade with sadness and remorse for the loss and move on.

While the being had instructed us not to return home, and this event was ominous enough to suggest it was advice from something obviously more powerful than us, I must still be concerned for the safety of my group.

We gather our senses, our belongings and ourselves and continue to journey back to the tunnel entrance, not so much to enter it and return home, but to get back to the most familiar territory we know, in this strange, and recently proven hostile territory. We will not go home yet, but we will go as close as we can get to an exit from this strange and dangerous outdoor world.

My limited combat training and survival instincts are immature at best and undeveloped or tested, but I am certain of one thing in times of uncertainty. Be be prepared for anything, and always have an exit or escape strategy in mind. With that, we head off continuing in the direction of the tunnel, and should we arrive there safely and in reasonable order, we will seek cover in it's vicinity and collect ourselves to determine what we might do next from there.

Oh and we do loot the supplies and tools and weapon, of course.

Result

You looted only the important stuff from the dead bodies. There would be no use for zillion swords at your possession after all. The group strongly disagreed with creation of any tomb-like construction. You energy reserves were so low that you had to prioritize your well-being. The dead didn’t care anymore anyway. You tried to at least hide the bodies and moved. (DICE ROLL) Finally you managed to travel through the forest unseen. You have passed one patrolling group, but fortunately you have spotted them early and managed to hide. You reached the well-known entrance to the tunnels and decided to spend your night in it, to avoid the need of setting up the camp. The new day came and with it a huge rain…
