About the Author

Philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche was born on October 15, 1844, in Röcken bei Lützen, Germany. In his brilliant but relatively brief career, he published numerous major works of philosophy, including Twilight of the Idols and Thus Spoke Zarathustra. In the last decade of his life, he suffered from insanity; he died on August 25, 1900. His writings on individuality and morality in contemporary civilization influenced many major thinkers and writers of the 20th century.

A little bit about the book

Thus Spoke Zarathustra focusses on the concept of 'the overman' and the development of mankind into this overman, or whom we can call, 'the superman'. Zarathustra descends from his cave after 10 years of meditation and solitude to speak of what he has found.

He wishes to spread his wisdom of the Superman, who is free from all mortalities from human society and creates his own purpose. Nietzsche paints a picture where the people whom Zarathustra meets in the town he descends into are not interested in 'willing the superman', only a few, as individuals are, and Zarathustra resolves to speak to these individuals separate from the herd of people. There is meaning behind this, linking to being contrarian and never following the crowd as such.

The book is predominantly about the steps to be able to will the Superman and why not many people do it. It involves having a clear head, not being bound by religions and being open to everything. This arguably was Neitzche's approach to life.

The book is a wonderful read!
