Book Club Friday's (#6) - Born a crime, Trevor Noah
Born a crime is written by the author Trevor Noah who is a 33-year-old Soth-African born in Johannesburg. He is a well-known comedian, writer and would be most recognized for hosting The Daily Show on Comedy Central.
It is a fantastic book, which displays his life growing up in South Africa amid all the racism and divide between 'whites' 'blacks' and the 'coloured'. He is a lovable character, full of mischief, but also the humble guy who always means well. There is a little bit in him as a character which I think we can all resonate with which is what makes the book such an enjoyable read. Not only that it is enjoyable but also it is quite an educating book on what it was truly like growing up in South Africa when it was really bad. It is heartwarming, tense and really pulls you in when you read it! Furthermore, I think it is the perfect length for a book tackling the genre and his own personal story. You will love it from the very first page, and there is truly something to be learnt for everyone!
One thing that I learnt is that no matter how bad you think your life is, there's always somebody else out there in a tougher situation and what's important is how we respond to these adversities in life.
