New Beer - Ayinger Helles

Already 11 days since my last Beer post - shame on me. Yesterday I spent the evening at my favourite Greek Restaurant in Munich with my girls. They served Ayinger Hell - a Beer I did not review yet.

Taste

Nothing special, just a solid German yellow colour Lager. Clear, almost two fingers of soapy white head. Aroma has bread and grass flavours with a mild bitte taste.

Ayinger Brewery

The Brewery is located in Bavaria - around 25 km distance from Munich. I used to drive through quite often but never did a test or review. Only a small portion of the Ayingerz beer is exported - main countries outside Germany drinking it are Italy and the US.

The brewery is organising many local small festivals in the Bavarian countryside. They are not served at the Oktoberfest as there is a rule that does not allow breweries outside the city to participate which is a shame.

The brewery has been founded in 1877 and is according to my knowledge still independent. Other Beer they produce are:

• Doppelbock
• Altbairisch
• Bräu Weisse
• Jahrhundert Bier
• Oktober Fest-Märzen
• Ur-Weisse

The brewery won several awards across the globe including the 2007 World Beer Championships for several beers (four to be precise).
