Part 41: Ghosts Of The Past

Three weeks later, Tuğ was released from the hospital. It could have been thought that he recovered by considering the absence of functional disorder in his organs. After all, he started to talk, but he was not as enthusiastic, curious, humoristic as he has been before the event. From the moment he started talking to me, I started making jokes to continue where we left off. I've seen in amazement that he no longer laughed at my jokes and treated me like a stranger. When I asked his father, Mehmet if he treated him the same way, he replied with a deep voice: “We have never been close. Tuğ lied to me in high school; he deceived me so many times. I was angry with him because of these lies that were told to get more money. I've warned him many times, but he kept on lying. Over time we became emotionally distanced from each other. I guess that's what happens when there's no mom. I was busy with my job, and he was in his wits. The physical distance from Munich to Istanbul has deepened the emotional gap between us. As a father, I assumed that I had fulfilled my duty by sending him money. Tuğ also liked this situation; he lived without any intervention, without the need to work. The last incident was a chance to reevaluate our relationship. Tuğ hasn't been able to get through the trauma. So it's not a special situation for you."

"What happened to your wife?” I asked.

"Didn't Tuğ said? He doesn't like to talk about the tragic incident that happened to her mother, and I think it was a reflex to protect himself. Their relationship was close. My wife had a car accident. The ambulance came immediately, necessary interventions were made, but she could not recover, Tuğ was 11 years old at the time."

Tuğ spent the first days of his new life buried in silence in his bed. It was like he was accounting for what happened to him and struggling with the ghosts of the past. He was trying to end the dialogue with one-word answers if he felt compelled to respond. After a week at home, when I went to ask him how he was, he took off his shirt, showed me the scars on her belly and asked, “Do I look good?”.

It was the first time I ever saw him smile after the unfortunate incident. It was not a childish smile I knew; yet for the first time in days, it had appeared in his lips.

“Did you talk to Bonanza?” I asked him.

"Bonanza is a thing of the past, lion. I have to get out of the cocoon I've built and grow."

"He keeps asking about you."

“Don't worry, his heart is unbreakable,” he said with a cynical attitude.

“He looks pretty upset."

”I adapted the code library for the relationship simulation written by a university student."

Are you going to stop developing?”.

“I am are going to Germany with my father; I do not intend to take Bonanza.”

“What about Bonanza?”.

“You have suffered a lot, Lion, you will take it, and because my father doesn't want any ties to Turkey, he will sell the house, you will have to find another house.”

“It's a big responsibility, I can't accept, if nobody develops, Bonanza will be outdated in a couple of years.”

“There is someone I know to develop, I have written the code cleanly, there are detailed descriptions in the relevant places on the code, also the architectural diagram, data integration points and so on,” said Tuğ.

I was sad that Tuğ was going abroad, and I said, “All my loved ones come out of my life one by one.”

“Let's not confuse the roles. I am the one who is depressed,” said Tuğ.

I was agitated, and I said, “Fuck off, go anywhere you want.”

“You can take care of yourself, and we'll be in touch, there's a technology called the internet,” he answered.
