Day 56 : 5 Minute Freewrite- The Pelicans

This is for the Day 56 : 5 Minute Freewrite. You can follow the link to add your own freewrite, or you can follow the #freewrite tag to read the stories of the day. Each day we are given a new prompt to write in 5-minutes. I hope you enjoy this one, the prompt is from my good friend @snook.

She glanced around her as the pelicans talked to each other in the car, and wondered if maybe she should call her Grandmother and ask her advice...

Her grandmother had experience in the bird business. She had grown to love the birds, but they were her grandmother’s birds, not Heather’s birds. Still, Heather wanted to be the responsible granddaughter by taking the birds to the pet shop.

She didn’t want to sell the birds. Her grandmother certainly did not want to sell them, but she had gotten sick, and the birds had to go.

The problem was that when she got to the pet store, they told her that they did not take the pelicans. A quick phone call before the thirty-minute ride would have revealed this fact. Now, she was stuck with the birds, and her only options were to take the birds home, find another store to sell them to, or to let them free in the wild.

Heather didn’t want to take them back home. The ride alone had drove her mad. She wouldn’t call her grandmother. It was time to set the birds free. She drove to the beach to where she and her grandmother sat on the benches to feed the pelicans. This would be the perfect spot. She carried the cage full of pelicans and then went to the benches.

She would set them free here. Her grandmother would never have to know.

I'm going to add, those were the most beautiful pelicans on that beach..... :)

Thanks so much @snook for giving us the freewrite sentence prompt. I did not know what I was going to do with it. But it made a cute little story. I did edit it, because I had it in my head they were pigeons; which I couldn’t spell anyways. :D
