Continuation.

A few minutes later, Vika heard someone coming quietly down the stairs. It was the same young man who had caused them to disguise themselves carefully.

When he reached the bottom of the stairs, he looked around cautiously and, seeing none of the children, walked slowly down the stairs and back into the hall, then went to the reception Desk and sat down in the chair opposite. It would be hard to see him now.

It was a good thing we'd managed to hide before he arrived, Vika thought with relief. - "That's just how me and grandpa to be, he will not see me, but can not speak, can hear the spy".

She comforted herself with the thought that they were still communicating telepathically with her grandfather, so it should be all right.

Exactly at midnight, the owner of the castle materialized near the stairs and looked around in surprise, not seeing next to him his granddaughter.

– Grandpa, do not worry, I am right here with you – I sent him a mental message the girl. – We're being watched.

– Good, I was worried something might have happened. Let's go to the study, let's not waste any time.

With that he floated to the study door, the lock clicked, and it swung silently open. The Earl's figure disappeared into the doorway, and Vika followed. Out of the corner of her eye she saw a slight movement at the back of the hall, but her excitement and fear were gone.

Closing the door behind her, the old man settled into his chair. Vika pressed a button on the instrument and stood before her grandfather.

– Sit down and tell me what happened, and quickly. – We're running out of time. Where's the map? Show me what you saw.

Vika spread out a map on the table and began to show where they had found objects that did not match the previous data.

The count listened attentively, and then, drawing the map nearer to him, examined it for some minutes with pursed lips. Then he said:

– In General, there is almost nothing has changed. I divided the artifact into two parts and hid them in different places. One of them you will find in the room where the coffins are, under the skin of one of them. The other is in Dracula's office, in the leg of the table. In General, you will have to work hard to pick up the artifact. And you have to look for it at night, and, try to have time to do it at a time. You will not have a second attempt.

– What does it look like? - unable to tolerate, asked Vika. – We have to know what we're looking for."

The Earl looked at her reproachfully, shook his head, and said,:

– It's rude to interrupt your elders. Didn't anyone teach you that?

He looked at his embarrassed granddaughter, smiled, and continued:

– Of course I'll tell you what to look for, show you.

He took a sheet of yellowed paper from a drawer and handed it to her.

– What is it? An old clock? - asked Vika.

– Well, you could say that, of course, but it's more like a chronometer. – the old count replied. – Don't ask me how it works. I won't tell you because I don't know. It was my duty to keep it, and it was used only by the most experienced travelers, and then very rarely. If the Academy wants to share with you the secrets of this artifact, you recognize its history and purpose, and mode of action. You know its purpose, though, or I wouldn't be talking to you right now.

– Now remember, you'll need to find the bracelet in the leg of the table, and the main part of the artifact - the chronometer-is, as I said, under the lining of one of the coffins. Which one I can't tell you. In the first place, I had forgotten, and in the second place, they might have been rearranged more than once.

– And more. You will have to search for the artifact alone, without your comrades. – Looking at his granddaughter's frightened face, the Earl said soothingly, – Don't worry, if you go to the castle after the full moon is over, you won't meet anyone from the otherworldly worlds there.– Much more dangerous for you is the man who is watching you. But... – the boys can escort you to the castle entrance and wait for you to return. Try to give me a sign that everything went well. Just slip a piece of paper with the word "Yes" or "no"in the crack under the door.

– Now, let's say goodbye. The next time we can see each other only a month later, when there will be another full moon. Say hi to grandma, tell her I miss her so much.

And then he quietly opened the door of the office, and again became invisible, I heard in my head his voice:

"Farewell, granddaughter! I hope we meet again."

The door was closed, Vika looked around, but saw no one and slowly began to climb the stairs...
