Chapter 3. An excursion into the past...

Part 1. In the dungeon

This time the passage through the portal was accompanied by a whirlwind and a loud roar. Vika from fear closed her eyes, and when the movement ended, she suddenly found that is in a narrow cave, barely lit by a shaft of light streaming down from above.

From somewhere to the right came the sound similar to gunfire. The girl became scared and frightened she looked around.

Next to her with a concerned and puzzled view stood Victor. By the view Viki became clear that he, too, has no idea where they're going.

"Wow...- this is an experienced guide?" - she thought with annoyance. - "How are we going to find our way home now?"

Her partner by this time already come to myself and began to click feverishly some switches on the device to which he was so proud.

  • Well, where the hell are we? - Vika asked indignantly. - You were so sure that we would not get lost and let's go back exactly where we started our journey!

  • Calm down, don't be hysterical over nothing - tried to dissuade the girl Victor. - Yes, it is very unpleasant that we are in such a situation, but everything is fixable. Now, I'm gonna fix the time and space sensors, and we're gonna try to find a way home.

  • But do you have any idea where we are, what time it is? - asked him Vika.

  • Don't worry, - again tried to calm her down Victor. - Presumably, we are now in the famous Odessa catacombs, just in the midst of our confrontation against the Germans.

  • How? Are we now in 1941-1942? We could die? We will be put to the wall and shot,, because we can freely take for saboteurs? - Vika got even more excited. She was already on the verge of hysterics.

  • Calm down, - could not stand, shouted at her Victor. - We'll get out of here in one piece. This much I promise you!

  • You also promised we wouldn't have a problem with the return trip. What really happened?what happened? - Vika did not think to calm down and forget about any security.

And Victor, listening, suddenly put his hand to her lips and closed the girl's mouth. She involuntarily obeyed and immediately heard sounds that resembled the steps of a cautiously crouching person. She involuntarily pressed back against the cave wall and stood waiting. Victor, too, turned into silent statue.

After a few seconds, there was silence. The person who went to meet them, too, stopped, apparently, deciding what to do, where to go next.

For a long time nothing happened, then the guys heard the scout turned around and went in the opposite direction. Only when his footsteps died away in the distance, they were able to take a breath.

Then, already in complete silence, Victor continued to check the device, and then said sorrowfully:

  • Unfortunately, the damage was much more serious than I expected. To repair the device, I need to find a couple of spare parts - he said in such a tone, as if it was commonplace - just go to the nearest store and buy the necessary parts.

Meanwhile, outside apparently a serious battle broke out. Victor decided to take advantage of the situation and try to get out. Vika tried to protest against his decision, but Victor explained that most likely everyone will not be up to them. And to move carefully we will, once again, out of sight...

But the girl continued to tremble with fear, and then the young man offered:

  • If you want to stay here. I'll go alone, find what I need to repair the device, and I'll come back to you.

  • Well, what can you find there? - in a loud whisper asked Vika. - There's nothing there but cartridge cases. Shops where all this could be bought, too, no.

  • Calm. I just need a piece of copper wire, by the way, I could use a cartridge case. There are a few small details I can get from the automatic's. Anyway, I don't even have to go far from here. I'll be back soon, don't worry.

With these words, unwilling to hear objections of the girl, Victor silently and quickly disappeared in the passage through which to them were unknown.

After the departure of Victor the girl freaked out even more. She then seemed to some sounds, saw shadows, and she could not stand the tension, decided on a desperate step. Clenching her fists tightly, she stepped into the passage and saw a faint light at the end of the tunnel. From there came the sound of cannonade.

Breathing more air, Vika firmly walked forward and soon reached the cleft and could see what was happening in front of the entrance to the cave.

However at first, she couldn't see much because of the veil of dust and sand, swirling vortex of grenades. But then she began to distinguish the figures of soldiers. Some of them shot back from the Germans, lying on the ground, some hid behind cover and from there shot at enemies. Taking a closer look, she finally saw the figure of her friend, who was already at the opposite wall. Only girl wanted to wave to him hand, to he waited, until she his'll catch up with, as suddenly... Viktor has vanished, as if melted in the air. Vika with fright covered her mouth with her hand, so as not to accidentally scream, but immediately remembered that the members of the community, to which she now belonged, have a special device that makes them invisible.

  • Why didn't he remind me of this device? - with indignation, thought the girl, - I could go with him if I had remembered about this protection.

Now she was left with no choice but to wait patiently, when Victor will once again become visible. It didn't take long. However, his re-emergence came as a shock to Vicki. The boy suddenly appeared beside her and took her hand. It was so sudden that she once again barely refrained from in order not to scream.

  • Hush, hush, don't you dare scream, or else you will draw attention to us. We need it?

Victor gently put her arm around the shoulders of the girl, wanting to comfort her, but Victoria pulled away from him and angrily asked:

  • We just going to stand there or are you gonna make it?

  • Well, for case, so for case, - said quietly to Viktor and walked deeper into the cave.
