Attractions of Sapa #14 Hoang Lien National Park
Hoang Lien National Park is a truly stunning eleven and a half square miles of mountainous beauty just outside the hill town of Sapa in northwestern Vietnam. The park consists of temperate and sub-temperate forests and the highest mountain in Southeast Asia, Mount Fansipan. Sapa is known for its scenic beauty, the terraced hillsides are one of the stand out tourist images of Vietnam. This whole area has become the centre of trekking holidays in Vietnam. The Hoang Lien National Park was upgraded from a nature reserve in 2006.
There is an incredibly long and varied list of animals to be found in the park, many of them completely unique to the area. A total of 347 species of bird including 49 unique to northwest Vietnam. A third of all species of amphibians in the country are found here. Sadly ten percent of these are endangered. Fifty Six mammals species have been recorded here including 17 which are endangered, the Asiatic Black Bear being the most well known. it is home to tigers, leopards, and monkeys.
Geologically the park is important also. A ridge of marble, limestone and chalk runs from Mount Fansipan to Muong Hoa River. In addition, kaolinite is found here. This particular form of China clay is used in the manufacture of porcelain.
The Hoang Lien National Park is one of the great attractions of Vietnam, loved by hikers, walkers, climbers and trekkers it is an beautiful place to visit. It is within easy reach from Sapa’s hotels and should figure on your travel itinerary if you are in north Vietnam.
