Attractions of Sapa #13 Muong Hoa Valley

in #travel6 years ago

Sapa in northwestern Vietnam is known for having some of the very best scenery in a country that is packed with beautiful vistas. The Muong Hoa Valley is probably the most beautiful part of an extremely beautiful region. This is the most talked about part of the region, the one that people remember the most after returning from their Vietnam holiday. It starts about 10 miles from the hillside town of Sapa, the capital of the region, given the same name.

The gorgeous scenery of the Muong Hoa Valley

The Muong Hoa Valley is home to mysterious carved stones that historians and archaeologists have puzzled over for generations. There are in excess of 200 of them in total and whilst the carving is of a simple nature, deciphering their meaning has proved to be more than a challenge. It is thought that maybe they tell stories of life in ancient times. The area has made it onto the tentative UNESCO list to be inscribed possible as a World Heritage SIte.

This is the area where many homestay holidays are becoming increasing popular. Visitors to Vietnam can visit the villages of ethnic minorities here and spend the night with local families. The H’Mong, Dao, Zay and other tribes have their homes in the The Muong Hoa Valley. This is also one of the main rice producing areas of Sapa and the famous terraced hillsides are what give the area its stunningly beautiful views.

There is no doubt that tourism is having a huge impact on this area. It is always a delicate balance of course. It’s easy to say that it should be left alone, but you have to remember that this is home to some of the poorest people in Vietnam, and for them tourist dollars are ever so important. Hotels are being built at a rapid rate to cope with the influx of tourists. However for now, it remains one of the most beautiful places on earth and you should see it whilst you can.
