Attractions of Sapa #6 Ham Rong Mountain

in #travel6 years ago

Ham Rong Mountain is said by locals to resemble a Dragon’s Head, though like most of these things, that is surely lost on most travellers. The name actually means Dragon’s Jaw. The ubiquitous legend that goes with it tells of two dragons walking together as a huge rain started. As the floods rose they were separated. The female dragon became petrified and the mountain was formed.

The lush greenery of Ham Rong Mountain

The Mountain is a rich and green place as one approaches it. It makes for a pleasant enough place to spend some time. There are many different plants particularly orchids here. From the Summit, at just under 5,000 feet, you get marvellous views of Sapa Town and on clear days, Mount Fansipan in the distance.

The best time to visit the mountain is in the Spring when the flowers are in full bloom and fill the air with their delightful aroma. The 400 species of orchid here are joined in blossom at this time by peach, plum and apricots. If you are fit enough, climbing to the top is a very special experience.

Thank you for commenting. Yeah, this is a lovely country

Love reading and seeing pictures on Sapa, have you been up Fansipan yet? Still waiting for the right time to go!

No I haven't, it's strange I'm not fit enough to climb it and since they put the cable car up it, I have no real interest because it is full of tourists now. Thanks for your kind comments.
