Die Punkbewegung befand sich noch am Anfang, als im Jahr 1976 The Adverts in London gegründet wurden. The Adverts wurden in den Londonern Clubs zu einer beliebten Live Band. Sie brachten 7 Singles und 2 Longplayer bis zu ihrer Trennung im Jahr 1979 auf den Markt. Die Band erreichte leider nie den Kultstatus der ihr eigentlich gebührte. Das Lied Garry Gilmore's Eyes gehört sicherlich auf die Liste der besten Punksongs.
