Do you think I should follow you? Convince me

in #post6 years ago (edited)

Hey guys, you might not know it but I try to do a lot of manual curation. I do have some autovotes going for certain accounts that I want to continually support but they are very few. I am also part of the OCD project and a big chunk of my Voting Power, especially during these low price days, is very limited.

But the thing is, I realized sometimes - especially during these times that no one is posting - I go through 12 hours of my Feed within half an hour and even though I am following more than 300 people, most of them are high rep users.

I know that 99% of my follower base - More than 8,000 Steemians - is made up by minnows, but my following base is hardly 25% minnows, so I want to change that.

I don´t want my feed to become unmanageable where I´m not able to read some of your posts on a daily basis and I definitely don´t want to browse my feed for one hour and realize I haven´t got to the 4 hour old posts, you know?

Well, of course my post title was click bait. You don´t have to convince me of anything, but I had to get your attention somehow!

So let´s do this, why don´t you leave in the comment section a small paragraph with some info about what, how and why you blog about with a link to the post you are the most proud about - preferably one that I can still vote on A.K.A less than 7 days old - and I´ll read your comment, if I´m interested about the topics or the way you write or why you do it, I´ll click on the post, if I enjoy the post, I´ll start following you.

Why do I make such a fuzz out of this when I can easily just browse the newbie section and follow some people?

Well, I owe a lot to my follower base, you are the ones that participate in my contests, you are those who comment on my posts and votes on them and if you are reading this, you are probably already following me, so I want to start following those who are already engaging with me.

If my request of you leaving a comment on this post sounds outrageous - who does he think he is to have me commenting to see if I´m worthy of his follow? well then, you are missing the whole point of this post, but you are in your right to not engage here.

One more thing, a few days ago I had some negative feedback so I wan´t to make something clear: If you comment here, thank you so much I really appreciate it and rest assured that I will read it, but I am not obligued to vote on your comment nor vote on the post link you leave here, nor I must start following you just because you left a comment here. I appreciate the engagement and I try to encourage it a lot - between you and me, but also between other users - but I, as anyone else on this platform, am the owner of my choices and I choose to (not) vote or (not) comment wherever I want.

As I said, this is not only for you to interact with me, but also for you to read the comment section and to start following and interacting with the Steemians you have something in common or that you enjoy reading them. This is a chance for me to follow you, yes, but it is more important to get this chance to visit other people´s blogs and to follow them!

I will stop reading the comment section around April 4th - otherwise I would never finish :P -, I hope you get to see this post by then :)

Hi @anomadsoul. I am Chamudi Liyanage a 14 year old girl from Sri Lanka. I've participated in some of your contests.

These days, me and two of my friends here on Steemit are planning to make Steemit a better place for the teenagers cuz we meet a lot of teens who does a great job but doesn't earn much.

Most probably, I am posting my life experiences and educational stuff and some other things.
Also I support those who post motivational posts and who try to help others.
And in the other hand, I am a big fan of anime but with the school stuff, I don't have much time to spend my time here on Steem.

Thank you!

Hey @anomadsoul. My name is Desmond and I am an active member from the Hong Kong community. I am also a member of OCD team. I want to help the minnows and the new Steemians from the cn community and I often resteem their good content. I am not a minnow and I am leaving my comment here not because I am looking for your upvotes, but I hope that you can reach out to their posts if you like.

Very short description:

Hi @jga. My teammate @lynncoyle1 actually sent me your post of the mathematical analysis. We both are in @abh12345's curation and engagement leagues and she expressed interest in learning how we could make it on to the curation league (so far we've only been contenders on the engagement league).

So she sent your post my way...hehe..let's just say your mathematical analysis went over both our heads! It looks like an insane amount of thought process involved and I do commend you on sharing. Math isn't one of Lynn and mine's favorite topic. :)

Thank you for sharing your depth filled analysis!

Thank you very much for doing this @beeyou! I'm so glad that we can both admit where our deficiencies lie, or perhaps it's simply disinterest... ;)

We have to keep an open mind @lynncoyle1. Or we will never make it on to the curation league. ;)

Fair enough! I do understand what's being said here, and what Asher says, it's just that my focus is elsewhere. Takes a lot of time doing what we do, and I think it takes just as much time focusing on doing well in the first League.

Hi @beeyou, I didn't know about the leagues, the contest seems to be very interesting.
My summary about curation rewards is:

  • Vote 30 minutes after the publication of the post.
  • Vote posts that have an actual payout of $0.00, or posts that you think will be very well upvoted (maybe developments on utopian).

You should check out @abh12345's curation league then @jga. Leave a comment for Asher saying you would like to enter. That's it. He does all the rest and you can see your results every Sunday. He has the same perspective on maximizing curation rewards. I hate to drop links off on someone else's post, but it's at the top of my blog if you want to check it out.

He also mentioned utopian and sndbox as good picks, but I feel that it has to do with one's interest here on Steemit. If your goal is to maximize curation rewards, then yes, hit all those accounts. It really isn't hard to find the posts to upvote on for maximizing rewards if that is the goal. Even looking at the bid-bot sites will give you ideas.

For others, like myself, curation rewards are not at the top of our priority list. A lot of members from our #newbieresteemday community share our upvotes with newbies and community members that volunteer their time, SBD, or SP to helping others. especially newbies grow on here. We also try to help with the @newbieresteemday account.

Making it to the curation league would be awesome one day, but at the moment, there are too many others we can help with our little upvote worth.

I agree with you, this is not my first priority. What I like is to educate the people about this blockchain, develop useful tools, and share my knowledge if it is useful for someone :)

In this process, I also have to learn a lot from the community and the curation a is part of this engagement. Thanks for your comment.

Two members of my team are also interested in learning about the blockchain and development tools. I did send your post over for their review too. I think they liked all those mathematical equations and analysis. Their mind works that way too. :)

Thanks for sharing your interest. It really does help in understanding this world of steem blockchain.

Hi @jga, I just wanted to introduce myself and say thank you as well for sharing your knowledge, even though it went way over my head haha

You should really join Ashers' Curation League; you'd love the stats I think, but also there's a wonderful group of people there that you could meet as well!

Cheers!

  • I post about once a day about Steemit, homesteading, politics, ...
    • I have a unique writing style developed over 20+ years of webmastering.
      • I have a unique perspective towards Steemit, since I was jumped into webmastering at the very early days of the Internet and find Steemit to parallel what I saw then. History is repeating itself. Most on this platform today will be blown away once the big money starts chasing Steemit eyeballs...

Latest post you should find interesting...

Hello @anomadsoul my name is henry, 24 and venezuelan... honestly I've been following you since a couple of days soo maybe that doesnt makes me worthy of you following me... but perhaps you will like what I do, so why not xd I'm an artist, sculptor and I'm discovering my passion for the wood, i also like to think and make other people think as well. Im into some poetry, education, esoterism and anthropology (this are the topics of the coming posts so wait for it). Hope you like it and enjoy it✌✌✌

https://steemit.com/english/@henryconache/saying-hi-to-slothnicor-wach-me-undressing-the-wood

Pd: this post is a litle introduction as well so... Casualty bonus xd

Hi @henryconache. Your wood artwork is really cool! I look forward to you sharing more of your wood art. I have a tree stump on my yard that I want to turn into something beautiful, but alas, no artistic talent for me.

Thanks for your comment and support👍👍👍 you won't be disappointed with the things I do ( i hope so xd)... its never too late to start doing something artistic. Van Gogh used to said that "if you want to be active (in anything), one must not be afraid to do something wrong sometimes, not afraid to lapse into some mistakes" so just give it a chance ✌✌✌

I would do so if I had a small bit of artistic talent! Hehe. That's why I admire the artists out there that put a part of themselves into their work. Thank you for the words of encouragement...perhaps one day I could start with learning photography. That is safe enough. I am pretty sure I would end up hurting myself with a dremel tool if I tried wood artistry.

Jajaja well I guess that a camera is less dangerous that a hammer xd

When we first joined steemit, people were telling us to choose a niche. We listened, and decided to blog on what we loved most, that is travelling. But we took it a step further, as we ONLY blog about Japan Travel. That is the only country that we really like to blog about. We realised this may be too niche a niche. Travel is a popular tag, but Travel + Japan may be too specialised. We wanted to share the beauty of Japan and make known to more people around the world. So, besides writing about our Japan travel experience, we also started a weekly digest where we select and curate posts from different authors on their experience.
https://steemit.com/japan/@jrvacation/travel-japan-weekly-digest-seventh-edition-week-7-sakura-sakura-sakura
We are at Week 7 now.

It was tough for us when we first started steemit too. And I still remember the first big vote that we gotten was from you @anomadsoul.
https://steemit.com/my2017/@jrvacation/my-2017-new-year-vacation-2018-in-japan-again
It was your my2017 contest. We made a post, a mistake, you corrected us, and even gave a big vote. It was the first time we gotten such a vote value and I can tell you, that single vote gave us the support and confidence to continue blogging in steemit. Just want you to know that a vote from youself or any whale to a minnow has such huge impact. It is that single vote that decides if a minnow is staying or leaving the platform. Thank you!

You have a good point. Even my favorite authors who specialize, for example in cooking, still post something about life or travel. It caters to the needs or wants of a wider range of audiences. That way, they don't lose their readers but attract more from other niches.

Just want you to know that a vote from yourself or any whale to a minnow has such huge impact. It is that single vote that decides if a minnow is staying or leaving the platform.

That's very true, i joined steemit early January and luckily I think that was the period @anomadsoul organised the contest my2017, I did the post and got an upvote from him and @surpassinggoogle which gave me over $5 upvote and i felt so happy because that was my highest pay as at then, even my introductory post didnt give me up to $1

Hi @inspiredgideon1. Happy to see you engaging around. I remember you from our #newbieresteemday community. You are definitely not a newbie any more! :)

Hahahaha why do you think am no longer a newbie @beeyou
I do visit #newbieresteemday once a while to encourage newbies

Hi @jrvacation. I commend you on finding a niche for your steemit experience. The weekly digest you have is awesome. Some of our community members have the same concept, but our focus is more on highlighting the posts of newbies starting here on steemit. We have some wonderful members reading and highlighting posts of those newbies that are trying their best to write good content. Very similar to your weekly digest.

Happy to see another community-focused initiative.

Hi @anomadsoul! Its nice to meet you first of all... I have heard @abh12345 mention you in some of his posts, so any friend of Ashers is someone I respect!

Second, thanks to @doomsdaychassis calling attention to this post and asking me to contact you about our project #newbieresteemday... I could go on and on about what we are doing, but I will make it brief and explain how it pertains to this post of yours.

Essentially we are a group of people that support helping the newbies get established, we define this as having a reputation of 45 or less. Most of us are still minnows ourselves so we have limited voting power and not much to give other than our voice. But we have grown organically to have over 200 people associated officially with us, and many more that are unofficial.

We do various projects to help these newbies along...

  1. the main project is our @newbieresteemday account upvotes and resteems the top 10 posts of newbies each day on our feed #newbieresteemday. We have about 7 curators who follow that feed and are trying to give a small upvote to encourage and promote good behavior. We only have 500 SP delegated to it, but we also have about 40 people trailing the vote, so we give a double digit upvote to those posts and lift up quite a few each day. We also "discover" good posts and strong people and feed them to the likes of "curie" when we find them.

  2. we have a sister project called @newbiegames... This is newer and we are trying to encourage people to host games and contests for newbies and minnows so that they can discover the engagement in a different way. We focus on fun and them earning something by playing so that it is a win win. This account only has 100 SP which was leased by us through the market just to give us a small upvote and enough bandwidth.

  3. our newest sister project is @greetersguild which is a place that is home to actual "human" greeters to the newbies when they arrive. We have about 20 or so greeters that find the time to actually read the posts of the newbies and respond directly and give them help and guidance. This project is only a few weeks old, but will be the feeder group to many since the people inside this program are essentially personalized mentors directly on a one on one basis.

Newbie Resteem Initiative also has a discord server that has many interactions all the time. And we help people with problems or steer them in the right direction. We also are open to coordinating with many other groups and encourage our members to participate with many groups. We are currently working with @asapers @helpie @cryptoempire and @apolymask on his IFC program.

I hope this helps briefly explains what we do, and regarding your post issue, I think we could definitely help you to get new blood. If you tell me what you are looking for and how you would like to receive those people, we will be honored to send people your way. You can ask @abh12345 or @danielsaori and they can tell you that we can deliver you fresh eyeballs. So just let me know and I would be happy to connect many to you!

You can get me easiest on discord and my username is davemccoy#2479... but I also do my best at checking messages here so of course you can reply here as well! Thank you for your time @anomadsoul, and again @doomsdaychassis thank you for the heads-up on this post!

I too am in full agreement with @davemccoy!! Being a member of the same groups, Dave said exactly what I feel :)

I simply wanted to add that @hitmeasap created @asapers, but I know that @insideout, who does so much there was hoping for a little external support because she writes a multiple-times/week newsletter called "READ ME ASAP" where we find three member's undervalued posts to upvote and showcase.

Thank you @anomadsoul for this and all you do here :)

The Queen... Thank you so much I knew you would never miss a chance to be helpful! ;)

Happy to do it Dave! Your comment here was perfect...and it was much more than a simple "comment" :)

Hi @anoumadsoul
I can only second @davemccoy’s reply here. No way in the world would I be able to put it into words in a better way.

@davemccoy, you keep surprising me with your passion and energy, although you’d think I’d be used to it by now ;0)

lol... thanks @simplymike... you are too sweet! :)

I vouch for @davemccoy my friend @anomadsoul. He's got his heart in the right place and doesn't spam your feed which is also a good thing :P

Thank you very much @spiritualmax! :)

Way to go team! My support is with @davemccoy. I would have written the same thing but he already took the time to do so, much better than I could have done.

I vouch for @davemccoy! He has been doing a lot for the newbie community from the time he started. He is good at connecting different people, a motivator and a leader as well :)

Thank you so much my future whale friend... You are awesome @wanderlass!

Hi @davemccoy! Wanted to ask you about the greeters guild. Was something that I am interested in and was wondering what it pertains.
Also, I am helping out a friend who just signed up and I am trying to guide her but I feel like she could get more information from you. I am not so great at explaining things as I would hope to. If you get the chance, maybe see about inviting to the the newbie posts? @crystal-creation, she started posting just yesterday. She was having login issues yesterday through the app as she was trying to edit her posts. Anyways, when she is back on, I will try to guide her towards you and the group as well. :)

Hey @foxyspirit... the general idea behind @greetersguild is that we greet the newbies as soon as they introduce themselves and do it in a "human" way... We read their post, respond appropriately, and also help them find where to go and what to do. We have also found some really good newbies there and been able to nurture them so they don't get lost... If you want to go their discord room and talk to @terminallyill or any of the others, they are a welcoming group for sure ;) Here is the link: https://discord.gg/DmVdzsJ

And I will stop by and say hi to @crystal-creation and let her know that she is welcome to ask me anything! Plus don't be afraid to get her on discord, she can DM anyone anytime for a question to be answered as well as ask any of the groups any questions too.

Hello @anomadsoul. My name is Alex, and I'm a 28 years old circus artist from Croatia. My complete financial life income comes from performing, leading workshops, and organizing festivals that are connected to circus skills, such as juggling, acroyoga, object manipulation and clowning. There are a lot of countries around the world where circus as a way of life is very common and usual (France, Spain, Germany, USA, etc.). But here in Croatia, there are all together less than a hundred circus artists, and the circus scene is in its pioneering moment. Croatia is not a very enlightened or developed county, and being a circus artist here is not very common. I've been doing circus for the last nine years, and for the last three years I can finally completely live from this. I dedicated all of my life so I could bring happiness to people, and live life in constant training. Recently I've made an incomplete intersection post of my nine years long performing (there's a lot of stuff missing, cause I have to find it), which you can see here:

https://steemit.com/story/@loop.cirkus/a-brief-history-of-performing-photo-story

Most if the things that I've posted are with my girlfriend Diana, because we're working together. We're here on Steemit because we want to promote circus art, connect with other circus artists, art enthusiasts, free thinkers, permaculture practitioners and all the people with a good vision and motivation.

Our current life motivation is to make a straw bale house in the countryside, to escape from the city, for what we'll need a few more years; connect and educate about the health benefits of circus as a sport in Croatia; produce high-quality performances with positive message to the audience.

Thank you for your time. :)
