Hello people

First of all, a great HI to @slothicorn. This great community here in steemit that support art and artist as well. My name is Henry, I am 24 years old and I live in Venezuela (Yup, that country full with the twenty-first century socialism). This time I’m going to introducemyself again…but in english… and for you.

I love wood, it is a pure and almost virgin material not lcreepy at all that we, badpeoplenaturekillingbeings turned into an impure and raped one. So my job for the moment in this world and in my country, is try to give it back the life that we took from it in one way or another, consciously or unconsciously.

I have developed a very particular set of skills, skills I have acquired over a very short career. Skills that make me a nightmare for a piece of wood and a creative and dangerous woodcarver, my especialities are knives, gouges, chisels, and demolition.

Slothicorn...????

I found this iniciative like a month ago but I couldnt publish nothing for you until now, I saw a few posts about it so I started my detective stalker labor, this was the perfect opportunity to show my work to a whole new community, so Why not... Hope you like it and enjoy it xD
In this opportunity, I present to you a series of photographs accompanied by a humble inner thought that I hope you guys find suggestive and attractive.

In the wood carving process, one of the first stages is to remove the bark (if you want to). In my opinion, this action opens up a world of possibilities in which I see and reflect abut the future and the past of the piece of wood that I have in my hands.

As a sculptor I have an intimate relationship between the wood and my hands, holding a hammer, a gouge or a chisel that dig and shape, looking for ...

...maybe a meaning, a purpose, a message or even a feeling.

This relationship is an approximation or an unusual perspective on what would be the search for the boundaries of the basic instincts, of what makes us truly human, in an almost abstract process, and, in the case of the wood, nature make it flesh itself.

This process is an almost sexual journey, which usurps completely the volume from the wood struck by the power of will, wiping out all what’s unnecessary, clothing, fear, a complex, the things that distanced us from what makes us human, from the essence, the natural; looking for nudity

Undressing the wood is reflected by detaching the stretches and limbs that are not needed; at least for the moment…

Remove layer after layer of garments of shame, becoming free from its bark that tactfully and submissively surrenders to the fulminating and dizzying cadence that separates and emancipates what is below.

To see her naked, to see her free, and to see her essence, is an awakening and a frenzy of emotions and thoughts.

This process provides us the capacity of perception about what’s beyond, in the wood is observed and coveted a level of awareness of what is hidden, of what is worth scrutinizing session after session of arduous dispossession of leftovers and unnecessary additions.

The wood, obedient of our creativity and designs, naturally, generates a dispute in the form of knots, fibers, cracks and veins which seal the fate of our calluses and scars in order to find in it its own dimension in protuberances and in its corpus.

Wood is the daughter of nature, of the Mother Goddess, of its tentacles and roots; These bastards, these phalluses, these females are the result of their world, of their day to day, their places of rest, their function. They surrender and detach themselves from their freedom when they die; they sacrifice themselves as an inexhaustible and renewable offering, almost as a mother, being the wood: a SHE; a being of exploration, a woman with many faces facing a distorted reality; a reality starred by life and death.

This daily life surrounded by garbage, full of rot, death, is not a final point, it’s rather a continuous cycle in which life develops, presented in the form of hair loss, dead skin cells, a cut nail, a run over dog, a starving homeless or a collapsing economy; death is a perennial process of which life is a unique witness.

This is why life from a certain point of view, lives with death, life revives what is dead, art revives what has died, man tries to revive nature incompetently, women revive men from his eternal search for "more"; these give a new meaning to a discarded trunk, or a batch of plastic or oxidized iron pieces. These deceased are articulated in a sort of conclave of afterlife, emerging in an integration of objects without life and function, with a new purpose, a design whose task is to collect motives that contextualize their new form, their new life.

These materials are impregnated with an ancestral nature, with vestiges of a past life, of anachronistic character, useless things, forgotten materials, that lead to the journey of the resurrection, bringing nostalgia, the longing, hopes and broken dreams, which curiously seem to be born from its exterior, which define its interior, being the opposite; the inner essence defines its exterior.

The forms, ideas, emotions, precepts and statements that make company to a sculpture, are mere reflection of its interior, of my interior. They are the invisible vehicle whose engine stays on, ready for the moment of the outbreak.

The wood without shelter can no longer be admired for its nakedness or naturalness, she needs something more, an intention, a single soil where she can root again her new life, where she can be part of something new, part of a future that is not come, an unforgettable past and a present that oscillate between what will be an what it was.
