Although these figures may not seem anything overboard in comparison to some of the other countries/nations that I have addressed so far, the following videos may help put things into perspective!

There are many claims that japan has the strongest and best navy in Asia.

Lets not forget that Japan is ranked in the top 10 military forces on this earth.
Not to bring about any ghosts from the past, but Japan has throughout its history shown to be a military force that has a tradition of being able to face far greater enemies, even when outnumbered they have proven to be a tough enemy and reguardless of "numbers" they have won battles and maintained control over vast territories conquered (occupied) by its military forces.
The key difference is that Japan is now an Allie and not a foe to Australia, New Zealand, Canada and The USA.
Likewise Japan is a nation that holds fast to its integrity, they have a long lasting tradition of honour and loyalty, their word is binding. This is in the current state of affairs in this world something that is worth more than any money or gold.
Again, no matter what may have gone down in the past is in the past and Australia has a very strong and reliable Allie up north in Asia. Again in a position to protect vast areas of oceans that have to be crossed in order to reach Australia.
When one looks at the maps, it all seems to make a lot more sense!
However, as we look at the map in between Japan and Australia, we have to ask ourselves, What else is out there as far as military forces go?
I have addressed some, but not nearly all of the military forces that exist only moments away from us.
Likewise, one has to ask them self, Shall history repeat itself as it has done so many times in the past?
Are we ready for any of these scenarios?
