What Happens, When It Happens? Brothers In Arms - The ANZAC Tradition! (PART 9)

in #politics7 years ago (edited)

In this series of posts about the military powers around Australia and those that are relevant, I have concentrated on those nations to the north of Australia, so far I have covered

  • Malaysia
    -Singapore
    -North Korea
    -India
    -Indonesia
    -The Middle East

I have also in the lead up to this series about the safety of Australia written up posts on:

  • A comparison of one of the worlds safest countries such as Switzerland to Australia
  • A look back at the historical events when it seemed that Australia could be invaded during WW2
  • An introduction to the series.

All of these posts are in essence a step by step look at the reality of our situation as far as the military forces in our region are concerned.

In no way is any post meant to be "frightening", each post is a wake up call, a cold hard look at the facts.

As the series moves forwards with military forces around us, it is only logical that we look at the smaller sized military forces that are of a vital importance to us, as we are to them as well.

Yes, I am going to take a look at New Zealand's military here, a traditional allies of Australia, one that we can count on just as much as they can count on us.

Fortunately for New Zealand the country of two major islands and famous for its wool exports of yesteryear its geographical location on this globe is such that one could safely say "New Zealand is probably the safest country on this earth".

All Australians have heard of and know about The ANZACS - Australian and New Zealand Army Corps.

It is this tradition that we know as the backbone of our unbreakable alliance to each other.

A relationship that few if any two nations on this earth have ever experienced.

A true blue definition of the term "Mates" on a national level.

So lets see what New Zealand's military forces comprise of:

This video is from the same source used in most of the posts to date, so as to ensure consistency in the presentation of information.

Unfortunately New Zealand's Military forces do not rank very high, so they are not on the chart that I have used in the past, however as in previous cases i have resorted to the following information:

Manpower

Military age 17 years of age for voluntary military service; service persons cannot be deployed until the age of 18 (2001)
Available for
military service 1,009,298 males, age 15–49,
997,134 females, age 15–49
Active personnel 11,440 (as of June 2016)
Reserve personnel 2,321 (as of June 2016)

As we can see here that new Zealand does not have the numbers, but the quality of their military on an individual level is definitely at a level that any nation would be proud of. With a traditional British backbone and a fierce local tradition incorporated from the Maoris, they are not to be taken lightly.

For the purposes of defending New Zealand, with an assurance that Australia is their brother in Arms at all times, no matter what the situation, New Zealanders can sleep soundly.

However, as this series is about Australia and not New Zealand, the viewpoint needs to be from the angle "What if Australia needs to rely upon New Zealand...."

Without a doubt in anyones mind New Zealand shall be a firm allies, however because of the lack of numbers the support that they can offer to Australia is limited.
Just like Australia, New Zealand does not have a compulsory military service, so the majority of its manpower is not trained in the fields of self defence and military know how.

So the above figures taken from Wiki may be misleading when looked at.

No matter what the case my be, we know that our east coast is safe and that our brother in arms, New Zealand can definitely be a big brother on our east coast if the need for their assistance arises, especially in the mid to lower parts of the Australian east coast.

Tactically speaking, this could mean a lot more than what anyone could ever imagine.

So the "numbers" even though small in comparison to some of military forces looked at in posts to date, due to the geography factor and quality of their forces are factors that can help all Australians along the east coast of Australia sleep soundly too.

The chances of anyone attempting to take on New Zealand and Australia simultaneously are practically ZERO. Not impossible, but I wouldn't want to be in their shoes!

Information and not "opinions" should be the basis for making decisions, especially when it concerns a nations well being.

Great stuff mate.
I think the greatest threat to NZ and indeed Oz is the super volcano at Taupo. If that goes off you're all fucked! 😉

If it were to happen, New Zealanders can rest assured that they have Australia as their new home.

Anyone who disagrees with this statement, well, shame on them.

Don't forget that Australia has enough high ground to ensure the safety of all east coasters, so any form of "tsunami" if known of on time might be a threat that mother nature could create, but the same mother nature has given Australians natural refuge and safe zones in any such event.

Unless an eruption were to happen in a matter of minutes without any warning, where the scientists of today can not foretell it, then you could be right!

Pompei all over again!

Take a look into that super volcano dude.
If it goes off it'll leave a hole the size of Australia!
It's fucking massive.
