HTC intends to persevere in its smartphone strategy dedicated to the blockchain. The Taiwanese brand has announced that it will launch a new, more affordable model this year to succeed the Exodus 1 released at the end of 2018.

The Exodus 1s will be positioned in the mid-range with a price range of between $250 and $300 according to a company spokesperson quoted by Engadget. No technical details on the smartphone configuration have been disclosed yet.

"There is a shortage of full nodes in the network," said Phil Chen, Decentralized Chief Officer at HTC. "By taking a more long-term, ecosystem perspective as a device manufacturer we believe we can help grow this network for application developers which in turn would benefit everyone using Bitcoin. There's a sense of being my brother's keeper here for running a full node. "

On the other hand, HTC has reported an important innovation: the Exodus 1s will be able to function as a complete blockchain node, i.e. it will be able to validate and relay Bitcoin transactions.

The Bitcoin ledger weighs 200 GB and will need to be stored on an SD memory card. HTC explains that otherwise, it will also be possible to have a reduced version of the general ledger in the mobile's memory.

Like Exodus 1, the 1s will use HTC's Zion electronic wallet, which is used to store, transfer and request crypto meters (Bitcoin, Ether and Litecoin...). (Eureka Press)

The question, of course, is whether there's a market for crypto-centric devices. HTC is in a tough spot financially, and it's difficult to imagine the Exodus 1 or 1s turning its business around.

Like the original Exodus, the new phone will include a Zion private vault, which will be cordoned off from the rest the phone to enable safer storage of the private keys that give access to the phone owner’s cryptocurrency.

Which is quite secure! It could be my next smartphone, and you??
