#MINNOWSMATTER MONDAY - MINNOW SPOTLIGHT ON @JANTON - A MINNOW TO LEARN FROM

in #minnowsmatter6 years ago

A proper example can be a powerful thing!

For this week's #minnowsmatter Monday, I'll be doing a special feature to spotlight one minnow who I believe is doing it right! Good examples can be a great thing to check out, so in case you're not familiar with @janton, I'll share a bit about him and why I think he's a minnow to model!

WHY @JANTON?

@Janton only joined our community back in February of this year. In that time, he's made almost 7000 posts and comments and gained almost 400 followers. His total account value of almost $200 USD may not be all that impressive, but it's more than most people will EVER make on Facebook, Twitter, etc, plus, it took a lot of effort to reach that amount. Also, @janton recently just hit a 51 reputation! Now that you know a bit about that statistics associated with the @janton account, please allow me to share why I chose this stellar minnow to spotlight.

INTERACTION

In my mind, this is what really makes @janton stick out. I notice his comments on a lot of posts as I navigate my way through steemit, and his comments are even real, consisting of more than just "Nice post," or "Follow me." For minnows, real comments are great "advertisement." They are a little glimpse of who you are that can not only be encountered by the author of the post, but anyone who happens to stop by.

Since the upvotes given out by minnows do not amount to much, the best thing that a lot of you can give other steemians is real, honest, encouraging comments. Time and time again I've checked minnows out based upon their comments alone, and a lot of them weren't even on my posts!

REAL INTERACTION

source

Yes, the last section was "INTERACTION" and this one is "REAL INTERACTION," and trust me, there is a difference. You see, for the most part, we all interact pretty well with others. However, there is another layer of interacting that few steemians seem to be really good at, and @janton is one of them. Allow me to share some info that should get you wondering.

If I look at three of the recent posts made by @janton, we encounter an anomaly that is rare. Here is the "hard data" on those three posts, which I'll explain momentarily.

POST 1 - $2.70 Potential Payout - 41 Upvotes --- 53 Comments

POST 2 - $0.96 Potential Payout - 31 Upvotes --- 69 Comments

POST 3 - $1.76 Potential Payout - 41 Upvotes --- 94 Comments

You may notice that frequently @janton will have way more comments on a post than upvotes. This is not because more people want to reply to his posts than upvote them, but rather it is because @janton will make real replies to his comments, which can eventually lead to a lot of interaction. Time and time again steemians get engaged in real interactions and discussions with @janton, and personally I am blessed just to see it happen.

You see, @janton is building real friendships and relationships with others, and he's endearing himself to others. Stuff like this can really make you stick out around here.

IMPACTING OTHERS

source

You may think that tiny minnows can't really impact others very much, but you'd be surprised. Just like this post, where @papa-pepper (another steemian) mentions @janton and basically promotes him and gives him "free advertising," such things have happened before. I am in no way the first to take notice of @janton or to speak his name in front of others. Check out these recent quotes from other steemians:

Here is another example of a great steemian who is creating awesome content and generating tons of engagement. He has actually been #1 on the Curation and Engagement Leagues list for 5 weeks in a row. He typically writes content with a western theme, and his comments are always thoughtful and engaging.
In one of his latest posts is Queen of the Cowtowns - Dodge City, he does an amazing job of relating his love for the old west and history. Mingling great photos and a bit of humor in so you don’t realize you are actually learning something about history and @janton at the same time. His posts are always a joy to read and remind me of my childhood summers I spent with my grandparents in Texas.

Have you met this guy?? He is everywhere, so there’s a good chance you have. But, if somehow you haven’t, you should really meet him! This friendly Texan loves to chat and has a great sense of humor! He doesn’t just go around making general comments. You know he has read your post and wants to engage in conversation.
According to the post, in the last seven days this guy has made 1,085 comments and has received 890 comments on his posts. That is crazy!

Influence, good or bad, LOL; would have to be @janton, because we talk a lot. :) I have fun taking to him, he is a Mess! We end up in some weird places sometimes, but it is a good time! And he comments; a LOT, LOL! Good people, BUT don't tell him I said so.... As commented by @smithlabs in response to a post authored by @coinsandchains

You see, as @smithlabs will agree with, @janton is a real comment maker and a minnow who sticks out in our community. This is one reason I wanted to share his good example with all of you.

CLOSING THOUGHTS

source

As far as content goes, @janton keeps things a bit varied. It always seems to be thought-provoking and if he shares something from elsewhere, he's good at citing sources and adding his own thoughts to non-original material. He's a Texan and perhaps even a "redneck," but we love him anyway.

As the GIF above suggests, if you've got some extra upvotes to unload, consider throwing a few over at @janton to encourage him and show some appreciation for all his hard work. Tell him that "Papa" sent you, LOL!

Until next time…

howdy there @papa-pepper!! oh..my..gosh! how many shades of red can a person turn? I'm blushing! this is such an honor papa-pepper, I can't tell you how flattered and humble I feel and can't thank you enough for all you've done for me.
Talk about the ultimate demonstration of how to become a great Steemian, you're it!

the wonderful people on this platform make it super easy for me to engage and thrive on here so I feel like I only deserve part of the credit and I have watched and learned from you more than anyone so thank you so much! God bless you and all the Peppers!

Thanks man! Glad that you found your way over here! LOL!

I just want to be encouraging the minnows more often, so I figured I'd show them a great example.... YOU! Thanks for being who you are!

I'm blushing again but honored!
truth is, without your help it would've taken me ALOT longer to reach where I am now!

LOL! Glad to hear that you think I was helpful somehow!

Okay, now you've officially hit the big time. When you get a post about you written by none other than papa-pepper, you're doing something right.

Congratulations, sir. You've earned this, and every other write up you've received, and any more to follow. :)

howdy sir Glen! haha. yes i was blown away. I've been fortunate to have connected him a little ever since I got on here. in my 2nd post I talked about our battle with scorpions and he sent me a photo of himself with one in his mouth! lol.
so I've been commenting back and forth with him ever since and sometimes he goes to my blog and just goes down the line upvoting each of my posts so they go above a dollar.
he's a great role model.
I'm a little embarrassed but so thankful to him. I was out mowing and stuff today, did you post?

Nope, no post today. My wife is off this week and has been watching the granddaughter, which means I get called away at all hours and sometimes for hours to help with one thing or another. I'm trying to make up ground now with the comments by setting a new reply speed record (just kidding, you've got that record :).

Well, when papa-pepper not only takes notice but then writes about you, you're doing all the right things. I've heard nothing but good things about him. I don't have a scorpion problem, so I guess that's why we haven't crossed paths that much, though I do end up on his blog on a somewhat frequent basis.

I say only good things can come from this post for you.

Well, when papa-pepper not only takes notice but then writes about you, you're doing all the right things.

Yeah, good point man! He's a great example and I'm happy to spotlight him to help teach others! Thanks @glenalbrethsen!

thank you sir. well I think papa-pepper is a great role model on how to helo people, I know that noname and him have had alot of contact and papa-pepper has also gone down the line and upvoted noname's posts, so who knows how many people he helps?
I have no idea how he does it but he puts out 4 to 6 videos a day plus all his homesteading work and teaching about animals and stuff, makes me look lazy!
hey I'm doing alot less comments than last week.

Thanks for sharing and acknowledging another fellow steemians.
Perseverance can go along way. WOW!
Congrats to you @janton

You're very welcome @pouchon!

Keep on posting!

thank you sir @pouchon!
you said it sir: perseverance and for me, stubbornness!
I just keep at it.

I always check on his page, and yours, I enjoy the content on both! @janton is real, and he is not a stupid person (one reason I moved to steemit from FB) so the discussions enrich my understanding, and sometimes, let me pass on something I know too. :)

Steemit has brought a lot of very good people into my living room through this portal, with very few duds!

My up votes are pretty much worthless, but the new people I have met are decidedly not!

smithlabs! lol you've got a great heart and thankfully a great sense of humor!
get ready cuz I'm just getting warmed up!

@janton I got a good discount on the sense of humor; so I bought a good one.

You better stay away from gasoline, you get too much hotter, you will ignite it. :)

it's crazy right? all I do is have fun talking to everyone and nothing happens for months and now boom! strange but grateful and humbling at the same time.

THEY Are watching you now! You are in so much trouble, ROFLOL! Fun to post; Now you have to PAY! :)

I'm just trying to stay ahead of my friend smithlabs!

@janton Yeah like you have to worry about that, LOL! :)

hahaha! well you are steadily climbing my friend so I can't get too complacent!

Well said! I'm honestly blessed to have met a lot of the steemians that I have since showing up!

It has been a real journey to get to steemit. I followed An American Homestead from the homestead channel, to FB, to you tube, to Patreon, to Steemit.

BUT I got here, and this is the first one, that has been a real fit. :D

Nice! I'm glad that you kept following. Good to meet you and glad you met @janton too!

The American Homestead reminds me of my Daughter and Son in Law. @janton is a fun mess! I really enjoy your kids too, they remind me of my own. ;)

Well done @janton. I'm not entirely sure where @janton came from, or how he first found me, but he has been a regular curator on my posts for at least a month now, and as you say, they are genuine comments, that show he not only read my posts, and watched my vlogs, but shared an in depth understanding of them, and contributed meaningful insights that encouraged further engagement.
Peace.

Thank you @papa-pepper for always take notes of your followers and tones of activities carried out on your comments section. You always appreciate and give new people or minnows a chance or voice to grow.

I am happy you are highlighting new steemians. @jantan has been one I am following and @smithlabs too. I like the way they engage with other steemians. This is what Steemit is all about. Right now your votes aren't worth much but the friendships we make are invaluable.

Yeah, they are good at making comments and friends too!

howdy @cecicastor, you're one of my oldest and most consistent friends on here and that is so appreciated. God bless you!

Thank you @janton. It is always a pleasure to have friends who like to share their knowledge and like to carry on a good conversation.

absolutely! have you posted lately? I'd hate to miss one of your posts. you are all over the place, you would place high in Asher's League contest.

I haven't and need too. Taking a break because of what I was posting about was a sensitive topic. I will post again but more about the weather reports, if you catch my meaning.

absolutely. are you getting to make another grocery run? that was amazing.

Grocery run is probably Thursday or Friday depending on the weather. We may have to wait until next week depending on the weather.

hi cecicastor..depending on the weather because you will be on foot?

I have lots of interactions with him as well....a TREMENDOUS commenter!

A very TREMENDOUS commenter indeed! Lots of interactions is right!

I have heard of @janton, but I have not followed him I will go and follow him now!

Looking forward to more #minnowsmatter. @pappa-pepper as always some great advice, thank you.

So many newer minnows missed so much. I figured a weekly boost would be good. Thanks man!

Who doesn't love @janton? I can see you Papa Pepper taking your Little Pepper's on a nice drive to Texas to meet him. I bet you two would make a great getting to know you video :-).

howdy Rainbow Man! who doesn't love Rainbow Man??? lol. you keep at it and in a year from now you won't even believe how far you got! thank you sir!
