# 13 Promoting Negros / Food Category / The Murcia City "The Sticky and Sweet Alupe" in Negros occidental "

Hi welcome to Negros we are now on the 13th post to promote my province!
Now lets visit the city of Murcia Eastern portion of Negros Occidental from the capital of Negros Bacolod City.
Murcia is one of the city that is producing starch from cassava beside from sugarcane and rice field.
Because of that, they are known in Negros as one of the best maker of " Alupe ".
A sticky and sweet food made from cassava, It is a grated cassava, and extracted thoroughly. Then mixed with coconut strips, wrapped in a banana leaf and cooked in boiling mixed water and "gata" Hiligaynon translation or in English it is called coconut milk.

You can cooked the alupe in medium or high heat, as long as there is enough liquid. For you to know if it is well done, the appearance is in translucent that you can no longer see the white portion of cassava.
What is the best in Alupe, is you don't need to add some toppings or any dip. The original taste of cassava is enough for you to appreciate it.

In Murcia public market or near at the plaza you can see vendors selling Alupe that cost 7 pesos per piece or 3 pieces for 20 pesos only. It is perfect for afternoon snack and partner with hot coffee or hot chocolate. The Alupe is also best to eat when its hot or came from fridge.

I love to eat this famous Alupe in Negros as one of my favorite comfort food. Actually in the city where I lived it is very often that you can see vendor selling this kind of food or any kakanin.
