# 12 Promoting Negros / History Category / The Lacarlota City "The high quality Sugarcane in Negros occidental "
Hi welcome to Negros we are now on the 12th post to promote my province!
Now lets visit the city of La Carlota the first sugar milling and top quality producer of sugarcane in Negros.
La carlota is one hour and a half away from the capital city of Negros the Bacolod City.
The city known in Negros as the best producer of sugarcane. They have a vast field of Tapol na Tubo Hiligaynon dialect or " red color sugarcane " which is larger and sweeter than common sugarcane in Negros.
You can cut the sugarcane then peel and you can bite then chew to get the sweet juice like a bubble gum.
If you have a week teeth or gums it is not advisable for you to take a bite, instead you can try the cane juice by using the manual extractor for sugarcane.

La Carlota, officially the City of La Carlota, is a 4th class city in the province of Negros Occidental, Philippines. According to the 2015 census, it has a population of 64,469 people making it as the least populous city in the province.
The American period saw the construction of a Gabaldon-type school building in 1908. The Central Azucarera de La Carlota, considered as the biggest sugar mill tandem in Asia, was constructed by the Elizalde family in 1918.

In early decades, La Carlota city have multiple operating trains that has access route within the cane field and connected to the milling site. That purpose is to easily gather or collect all the harvested sugarcane by the " Sakada " in Hiligaynon or " sugarcane farmer in English.
In present years I'm not sure if they are still using the trains, because as far as I know most of the harvest sugarcanes are collected by trucks directly from the field.

This train model represents the city of La Carlota and you can see a replica of that train before the welcome signage.
They also have a festival called " Pasalamat Festival for masaganang ani " every year. A festival that giving thanks to the mother nature for giving them a bountiful harvest every year. In fact the highest percentage of La Carlota income is came from sugarcane production and collected fees from milling services that they offer to other cities who don't have milling factory.

Great post in here! My hometown is in the municipality of Valladolid, which is only around 15-30 minutes away from La Carlota. I remember when we were little how we extract the sugarcane juice out of it just by biting and chewing the sugarcane. That's why we were always excited during the milling season because there will be a lot of trucks loaded with sugarcanes in it. Until now, our love for sugarcane is still visible because we always have a few of this in our backyard. Yes. Just for personal consumption. 😊
love that childhood things to do... " Pang-os tubo " hahaha..
Napaka tamis ng inyong lugar. I would love to see the pasasalamat festival.
