Tokyo Teppanyaki

in #food8 years ago

Who would have thought that it could be so much fun watching your food get cooked? But with Teppanyaki, it really is. Its a treat for the senses before you even get to treat your tastebuds. The sight of the cook, chopping, twirling and masterfully working his ingredients on the hot plate, the sounds of your food spitting and sizzling, and the smell of the pungent garlic and beef. Honestly, I'd almost pay money just to watch the spectacle and not eat anything at the end of it.

My Teppanyaki Experience

Today we ate at "Tokyo Teppanyaki, which is located in the Mahboonkrong Centre in downtown Bangkok. Thailand has a very large Japanese community and some of the best and most affordable Japanese food that you will find anywhere in the world. As is the style, we sat on high stools at long benches that stretched around the cooking area.

My Beef Set

I ordered the premium New Zealand Beef set, which came with a bowl steamed aromatic rice, a bowl of Miso soup, and some grilled cabbage/carrots and brocolli. The vegetables were cooked on the hot plate with the beef, and had some extra spices and seasoning added to them. The total price for the set was 320Baht or roughly $9US, an absolute bargain. Add an extra $1 for free-flow Japanese green tea.

Let the Show Begin.

First the meats are added to the hot plate. Here you can see 2 different cuts of steak for my order, and some shrimp and mushrooms, which were ordered by other patrons.

One of the steaks has been diced, and a fish has been added to the hot-plate, The cook from time to time pours some liquid onto the meat, though I'm not sure what is in it.

The mixed vegetables are now added to the grill. These take very little time to cook. But you will see how much he starts with, and we end up with 2 small servings at the end after they have reduced down.

Ta-Da ! My finished meal. Show is over and its time to eat. I think you'll agree that it looks delicious, and I can tell you that it was!
