Save Water, Drink Wine - My Night of Wine Tasting

in #food8 years ago
As the rain belted down outside flooding the streets of Bangkok, I sat warm and cozy, testing a trio of wines.

The new wine pub near my house was offering a great deal to test out 3 different varieties of grapes from 3 different regions, so we decided to pop down on Friday evening and try them out.

1. Sauvignon

Yealands Clearwater, Marlborough 2014

New Zealand

This was my favourite, as I love the crisp and aromatic flavour of a good Sauvignon. And this is what the experts say:

"The 2014 Yealands Sauvignon is a very flavorful dry white with passionfruit, citrus and fresh herb flavors, as well as elevated acidity that brings a fresh, mouth-watering character to contrast with the wine’s oily-like texture. Of the range of wines, it is the most classic for Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc."

2. Riesling

R. Von Kesselstatt, Kabinett, Mosel 2014

Germany

The Riesling was my wife's favourite. and she managed to get second and third helpings, so she thought it was pretty good. As for the experts:

"An exquisite Riesling at a great price. Aromatic floral and juicy lime intensity. It may have 42 grams of residual sugar, but thanks to the pristine acidity, it doesn’t feel that sweet. The low alcohol makes it a perfect garden-party wine."
(Christelle Guibert, Decanter.com)

3. Chardonnay

Miles from Nowhere, Margaret River 2010

Australia

There is a reason that Chardonnay is the most popular white wine, and the one we drank from the Margaret River didn't disappoint. It had the strongest flavour of the 3 and as described by somebody who knows a lot more about wine than me:

"Rather ripe and fruity style of chardonnay with a lot of ripe melon influence. It's creamy and slightly buttery but the acid and light citrus tang holds it together. Gentle infusion of vanilla in oak pokes through to add some complexity."
(Ray Jordan, W.A Wine Guide)

I do enjoy a good glass of wine but am far from a connoisseur. All 3 were very pleasant for me to drink. I don't think any of were very expensive bottles, so its not going to break the bank getting a couple of bottles.
