As part of their plan, Sarah had decided to work until a week before her due date. She finished her work on the last day and the office gave her a baby shower. During the last few months she has worked less, but in her heart she was an attorney and that would always be part of her. The whole concept of staying at home with a baby seemed odd to her and she knew she was ready to do that.

She decided to take a six month maternity leave, and then she would start searching for a nanny.  When she left the office she told them that she would be back in six months. Perhaps earlier if she died of boredom. One of the other female attorneys laughed, and said that Sarah might never be back, which Sarah found absurd.

She did not know what she was going to do with herself, and she was actually thinking of hiring Ursula to take care of the baby while she was at work. But she didn't know if she would be up to looking after a baby.

They started decorating the baby's room the month before, and even though pink was not her favorite color, Matt insisted on painting the room pink. When it was finished she had to agree that it was quite subtle.  Matt bought her a rocking chair and the room looked fit for a little princess.

Matt was extremely excited for the baby to be born and phoned her every hour to hear if she was still okay. She slept a lot during the last week but absolutely nothing happened. She was bored out of her mind. When it was Wednesday the following week the baby was nearly ten days overdue and they were still waiting patiently.  Sarah however, was getting annoyed because she felt like a whale waddling around and could hardly climb the stairs up and down anymore.

She phoned the doctor and he assured her that it was normal.  Particularly with first babies, and there was nothing else to do but wait. She was bored out of her mind and couldn't do anything for herself.  The baby was huge and so was she.

They went for a long walk one evening after Matt came home from the office and he had to push her up the hill back to the house. She was irritated and exhausted and Matt ran her a bath. She had a long relaxing bath and she sat there with the same contractions she had for weeks now.  Braxton hicks.

Matt was watching television in the bedroom and came to check on her once and she assured him that she was fine. When she finally decided to get out of the bath, Matt was fast asleep.  He was working very hard these last few weeks so that he could take time off to be with her once the baby was born.  She felt totally restless and went downstairs to go and find something to eat.

She finished her snack and then climbed into bed next to Matt.  She couldn't fall asleep and switched on the television. There was nothing that interested her, and she picked up her book to read. She felt so uncomfortable and decided to go sit and read in the baby's room. Matt woke up and asked her if anything was wrong. She assured him once again that she was fine and told him that he should go back to sleep.

She had a doctor's appointment in the morning and she was praying that he would put her out of her misery with an induction the next day. She sat reading in the baby's room for a while, but then her back hurt so badly that she couldn't sit anymore.  She went back to bed and felt more relaxed, and fell asleep about half an hour later. She didn't sleep for long.

Matt woke up to her moaning and suddenly he sat up straight and was wide awake when he realized what was happening.

"Sarah are okay?" She shook her head as was barely able to speak.  "What happened?  What's wrong? "

Matt grabbed his watch and kept his hand on her stomach. The contractions were about two minutes apart and they were told to get to the hospital when the contractions were ten minutes apart.

The baby was coming and they did not have time to get to the hospital. Matt grabbed his phone and phoned 911. He briefly explained the situation and they told him to stay calm as they were on their way.  They told him to leave the front door unlocked so that they could come right upstairs and he immediately ran downstairs to unlock the door.

He ran back upstairs and stayed with Sarah and she grabbed his arm to try and control the pain.  She had a death-grip on his arm and she was screaming as if she was being murdered.  Matt held her hand and stroked her hair, and within a few minutes it was all over and  Matt saw the baby on the bed.

Amelia started crying immediately, and Matt grabbed the nearest towel to wrap their daughter.  He heard the alarms of the paramedics in the backround and within seconds they were in the room with them.  The paramedics checked both Sarah and the baby and then one of the paramedics cut the cord.

He suggested that they go to the hospital to get properly checked.  The ambulance took Sarah and Amelia to the hospital and they were sent back a few hours later with a clean bill of health. Within three hours, the three of them walked back into the house. Jack was overjoyed when they phoned him and Matt promised that he would fly Jack down the next weekend.

Amelia Laricy had been born in the same house as Sarah's aunt Daphne and even though she could never have imagined it,  for Sarah this was the biggest achievement of her whole life. She had the house of her dreams, the man of the dreams, and now she had the baby that she loved with her whole heart , even though she never expected to feel this way about a baby.

Sarah had the perfect life.

Hi cabbagepatch. I might focus on writing a few short stories now while I think about my next story. I definitely enjoyed writing these 26 chapters!

I meant to write back sooner but so many things came up. By all means you shouldn't ever feel pressured to write a chapter a day. We just love telling you how much we love your story. With work and family and Steemit, your plate is very full. As people tell me, go with the flow. I may start to slow down too but I do love researching and writing. Thank-you for letting me enjoy my opportunity to write. Have a good week ahead @giantbear!!!
