Story: Matthew and the Dragons (Part XXXI)
Part XXXI
The news of the shadow dragon's defeat reached the ears of the kings and the nobles—startling them greatly. At the same time, Matthew also heard the news through Maria.
Meanwhile, the king ordered that the news must be spread throughout the kingdom! No one must not know of it. The king did this to bolster the moral of the army and the citizens. As such the citizens are finally put at ease.
To make things more memorable, the king made the day a national holiday, and a joyful celebration ensued. Several days later, Matthew was summoned to the castle by the king. One reason is to commend and reward him for his huge contribution. The other reason is because, the silver dragon wishes to see him and the king!
Matthew was accompanied by Maria, to the indignation of the two girls—Aria and Amy. Unfortunately, there's nothing the two girls could do, as only Matthew was summoned and they are not. Usually Aria and Boris would accompany Matthew but after being assigned to protect Amy and the craftsmen, the two adventurer could not leave their charges without protection. As Matthew's protector, the elite female assassin Maria is allowed to go with him.
With an entourage of knights and soldiers, Matthew reached the castle without any issue. Inside the castle, Matthew is greeted with enthusiasm by the king, the nobles, and officials. Such enthusiasm was expected considering Matthews large contribution to the kingdom.
After a bit of formalities, Matthew received his reward, and the king asked him to follow him towards the top of the castle. Along with the cloaked Maria and the royal guards, Matthew followed the king to the top.
Meanwhile, Maria notices a very familiar presence, yet she cannot spot the said person. Knowing that only her adopted father could pull a wool over her eyes Maria calmed down. Yet she cannot helped but be startled when she notices that the her father's attention was on Matthew!
Indeed she was correct, the leader of the infamous "organization", and Maria's adopted father is indeed observing Matthew intently. The reason for this was very simple, Matthew manages to attract the attention of her cold daughter! Therefore, the king of assassins could not help but be curious of thee young man. The way he looked at him was like that of a father-in-law who is judging if the guy is worthy of his daughter!
Matthew also felt the fiercing gaze thrown his way. To he wanted to know who it is, his ability to detect people hiding is average. Therefore, he could only endure. Fortunately, his observer was only looking at him intently, nor was there any killing intent from the said person.
Ignoring the fiercing gaze, Matthew followed the king. At the top of the castle, a beautiful creature glowing with silvery light is currently observing the whole city with great interest. He only turned around after noticing several people coming. Who else could this beautiful, silvery creature be other than the silver dragon!
The silver dragon's eyes softened after he saw Matthew approaches. Though he had seen Matthew entered the castle earlier, seeing him up close is still a different thing. He also have quite the good impression towards this weak-looking boy. He knows that Matthew is destined for greater things. Yet, admit that he still understemated the boy back then. Who would have guessed that this seemingly unassuming young man have thr greatest contribution in defeating thr shadow dragon!
Matthew too felt excedingly happy to see the silver dragon!
After a short greeting the silver dragon, the king asked the silver dragon the reason fir his visit. Hearing this, the relaxed expression of the silver dragon vanished and was replaced by a very solemn face.
He then proceed to tell Matthew and the king the reason for his visit...
