Story: Matthew and the Dragons (Part XXIX)
Part XXIX
After duke Bernard's troops joined the fray, the fighting becomes more intense. But the advantage still remained at the hands of the kingdom. The forts defenses holds ever so strongly despite the constant barrage of attacks. On the contrary, the enemy forces keeps lossing troops—humans and dragons. Nonetheless, the enemy still manages to hold the kingdom's armies' attention.
The shadow dragon saw this and his eyes shines with sinister glint! Stretching his bat-like wings, he attacked with incredible speed!
Like a meteor, the shadow dragon swipe with his claws, tail, and wings! The sonic boom alone could blow away the soldiers unlucky enough to be hit.
The duke's troops and the dragons cheered seeing the shadow dragon's onslaught! But still, the damage to the kingdom's forces had been minimal. This is because the shadow dragon dare not to slow down his flight speed. He is afraid, afraid of the new weapon! He knows that once he slowed down he will be attacked without mercy!
The shadow dragon find this unacceptable—a greater dragon like itself cannot afford to show carelessness in front of the puny humans! He cannot even used his greatest weapon—the dragon breath!
This is because using the dragon breath requires a bit of time. Yes, it only needed a little time. In fact all it needed is a few seconds! Yet that few seconds could be fatal for him. The effect of the new weapon on him was undoubtedly huge!
The fort commander watches the whole situation coldly. He is waiting for the right time to use the new weapon. Therefore, he ignores everything around him!
The soldiers manning the new weapon are waiting for the order to fire with bated breath. They too are excited to test this new weapon that the craftsmen termed as the "exterminator"! They wanted to know if such a name is justified or they're jusr boasting.
Meanwhile, the shadow dragon was getting more and more impatient. The suffocating feeling is unbearable! When did a great dragon like himself ever need to move with caution in front of these humans?!
As such his anger had reached incredible heights. The shadow dragon even failed to noticed that his anger got the better of him!
So without thinking he took a deep breath! He is about to unleash a devastating dragon breath!
The fort commander who have been observing patuently notices this action and quickly gave an order! The soldier quickly aimed the "exterminator" at the shadow dragon's direction and fire!
BANG!
At the same time the shadow dragon completed gathering magic into his mouth and was about to release it when he saw a ball-like black object flying at his direction! Then like magic, the ball-like object falls apart and unfurled into a large metal net! Not just any metal net but a net filled with barbs.
The shadow dragon was alarmed and tries to dodge but the net was too fast to too wide. Unable to dodge, the shadow release his dragon breath but the net covered him like a spider web! Like a powerful embrace that one cannot extract themselves from! At the same time, the dragon breath fired but it only manages to tore a hole into the metal net. Worse still, the heat spread through the metal network of the net and engulfing the shadow dragon within. The shadow dragon quickly plummets from the sky!
But the shadow dragon's suffering is not over as two more "bang!" are heard, and two large spears with strangely designed spearheads or to be more precise, harpoons, come flying at him!
The harpoons hits the shadow dragon, piercing through the scales and flesh! Though the harpoon didn't pierce all the way and was stopped by the bones, it still caused massive damage to the already falling shadow dragon!
BAAM!!!
The shadow dragon fall to the earth with a loud banging sound, and the whole battlefield turned deathly quiet...
