The Deadpost Initiative! - Week 20 - Share your most undervalued work + week 19 winners ($12 STEEM prize pool)

in #contest6 years ago

What is the Deadpost Intitiative?

The Deadpost Initiative is an attempt to give love to some posts that were overlooked during their short 7 day life span, a chance to bring your old posts back to life and maybe make some friends in the process. The goal is not only to share some love with SBD but also by engagement to generate discussion.

Last week

Another great week for submissions and engagement! Not only that @drpuffnstuff and @vincentnijman swooped in to save the day with some donations to keep us going. I’ve been incredibly busy in my physical form, lots of responsibilities this week so I wasn’t watching the post very carefully. Seems I missed some good stuff.

We have two MVPs who won this week, and some new winners as well!

Last Week's Winners

@lavidaesunviaje - $ 3 Steem prize

@lavidaesunviaje shares another one of his wild adventures with us, this time to a party on a small island in Guatemala. He has become one of the MVPs of the Deadposts Initiative!

@pathforger - $ 3 Steem prize

@pathforger is still the heavyweight champion of the deadposts initiative. His post is thought provoking and controversial as always, and I think it’s full of great points.

Is it Not Time to Put Our Hearts Into Ending Terrorism?

@artbyclark - $ 3 Steem prize

Most people probably don’t know that I’m a huge Naruto fan and Rock Lee was one of my favorite characters in the early days. @artbyclark shares a nice sketch of a father and son.

@stephenparato - $ 3 Steem prize

This is a very powerful self inctroduction where @stephenparato shares one of his most personal experiences. Many of us try to escape from our pain and insecurities. Luckily he was able to turn his life around so we can get to know him here today.

Here is one of my best deadpost where I elucidated on the fact that a word sometimes have more than one meaning. It helps non native speakers of English Language to understand the language and use it better.

https://steemit.com/steemiteducation/@williams-owb/do-you-know-a-word-could-have-more-than-one-meaning-read-more

Some cool info on grammar there.

Thanks for the kind words. I took my time to trash some of the words and expressions that could be causing confusion to the users of English Language. Seeing an expression like "He forgot to arm the alarm with his arm" could be difficult to understand if one is not conversant with the rudiments and basis of language.

Best wishes!!!

I can only imagine how non-native English speakers who're new to English feel when they see such confusing sentences! Glad you're clearing their doubts.
Cheers!

I bet that it can be quite frustrating at first when you are just getting acquainted with the language but as time goes on when you read posts like this and educative books, it would become clearer.

All these leads us to one of the feature of language - flexibility. Language is flexible such that it can take any form.

What's your first or native language @yesaye?

Agreed.
Mine's a language of Karnataka, India called as Kannada.

Okay. You seemed to have mastery in English language from your choice and use of words. That's a good one. 👍

ಶುಭಾಷಯಗಳು

Hahaha I'm flattered! :P
Thank you, best wishes to you too!

Great post, I am sorry it didn't get found and rewarded appropriately. I hope you are having more luck these days.

Thanks for your concern dear friend. Well, I'm sure better days are ahead. I'm still persistent and focused in what I do. I do not let low payouts deter me from moving forward.

Best wishes!

Feel free to follow the @asapers we are always looking for good content to curate.

Boom you have my vote! I am an English teacher teaching IELTS and one of the things that is always difficult to explain is exactly this! Because not in every language this occurs, so it is really hard to explain to students that yes....this is actually true. A word can have more than one meaning. heheh

Hi @karinxxl, you must be a master in your field. I'm sure some day I'd drink from your pool of knowledge. I'm a graduate of English and Literary Studies from Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU). I have been bathed in the river of Language by scholars like you.

Yes! It is quite difficult to understand words that have the same meaning as well as words that are similar in orthography and pronunciation. It is as simple as it is when one is open minded and understand the context of each word.

It's nice to meet you and best wishes 😊

Yeah nice to meet you as well! Definitely not a master in my field as yet, but learning every day. Doing a lot on Steemit in English also helps a lot, just using the language more :)

Very interesting post:)
Have you ever considered stating it in reverse;
I have ever wondered, for every meaning, what are the words that can be used to express it.
Thanks for sharing :)

Fist off, you did a really great job on this post. I can clearly see that you put a lot of work into it. I also like the topic you chose. I think it's important to realize that sometimes words can have double meanings. This can be confusing to people when your using the same words in different instances but they have different meanings. It's just like you explained in your examples. I think this does help non native speakers of the language a lot and I'm sure that they would appreciate the effort you put into this.

Thank you for the commendation @artbyclark.

Non-native speakers would find the post helpful and it would assist them to know which words to choose at the right time.

Thanks for stopping by.

what a helpful post. I'm a native English speaker but I think semantics are pretty cool. I enjoyed reading your post! :)

I'm glad you enjoyed reading my post @amariespeaks. Where exactly are you from?

I'm from the US - outside Boston, what about you?

I'm from Nigeria

very cool! gotta love Steemit - where people worlds apart can chat!

It's very interesting and innovative - bringing us together.

Semantics ARE cool!

What a fantastic concept! I ponder this a lot, because I love learning language, and also writing stories and poetry and being really playful with my words, and I know that these concepts will rarely translate directly...

Thank you for the kind words @stirling
Language is life and it's the reason for our existence, either we communicate with verbal or non verbal language.

One of the characteristics of a great poet is the ability to play on words - pun. It takes someone who has mastery in language to do this.

Have a great day!

Thanks again @whatamidoing for this awesome initiatve!!!
i hope it grows and become a big success, im always resteeming it.
Quick question... what MVPs means? my first language is spanish :P
Here is my post for this week:
https://steemit.com/life/@lavidaesunviaje/becoming-a-divemaster-in-taganga-colombia-my-experience

I loved your post and all the pictures! The video was also very cool. I've never dived but I will some day! Looks like so much fun :)

It is!!!
it's like being an astronaut on another planet with really low gravity! :)

MVP means most valuable player haha

nice! lol!!!
Hope you can keep it going... it should be growing! it's a necessity... :)

I always love your posts bro!

Wow! A Lot of informations and personal experience there. I never tried diving (just snorkeling) but I really got interested reading your post to try at least once. I'm little bit scary to go so deep. but like you said is so beaitiful down there to lost the experience just because of fear.
Good luck with the competition!!!

Thanks @nielada!!! :)
you're gonna try it!!!

i did my dive master at that same exact spot in colombia...very cool post.

Next time we can meet on the beach in mazunte and do some diving! :P

I wrote this one over a year ago about the victim mentality and how it affects us. It also includes my tips for letting go of this destructive mentality: https://steemit.com/spirituality/@becomingwhtur/how-the-victim-mentality-and-it-s-enablement-is-destroying-the-world

wow what a topic. Your post is very good. Victimization is like a cultural phenomenon nowadays. It is everywhere, encouraged basically. I can admit I've fallen victim to this way of thinking quite a bit in my younger years - and even still once and a while. I like how you brought in the light at the end. There is hope. More people are waking up to this enabling force which creates only victims and abusers for the sole purpose of spreading negativity and fear. Empathy for suffering of others is what will save us, I think. But victims can never be fully empathetic because they are so hurt by whatever has been done to them that they feel it is more pressing/important/deeper than anyone else's pain. You have to heal yourself in order to show someone else the way.

Yes, that is the rub, when you're so wounded by victimization, it's hard to see beyond your own fingers and toes. I have used Jnana yoga to great effect to get a "bird's eye view" of my suffering, that is, Jnana yoga is a systematic process of renouncement of ego identification, and it helps greatly with breaking the cycles of our own thoughts and mental illusions dragging us down.

Empathy, on the other hand can be developed through Karma yoga, which is the yoga of selfless service to others without expectation of reward. Swami Vivekananda said that all four paths of orthodox yoga will bring a practitioner to spiritual freedom, but he placed special emphasis on Karma yoga for the benefits of selfless empathy that one develops, which is very much needed in this world! He saw that truth over a century ago, amazing!

thanks for all that wonderful information - I'm a beginner in the world of yoga - I used to think yoga was just Hatha yoga, asanas and the physical practice but as I started learning more I realized there is so much more! It is amazing to see yogis from so long ago having such insight and wisdom.. it baffles me how much knowledge the eastern world held long before the western world started trying to "scientifically" define everything. Funny how things are starting to match up, though!

I can recommend many things! Look into Sri Ramakrishna's works... he was Swami Vivekananda's teacher. Vivekananda was brilliant like a star, Ramakrishna was radiant like the sun :)

If you use discord you are more than welcome to contact me there becomingwhtur#8264

Blessings!

thank you very much!! I will be looking into these teachers!

You have wrapped the whole topic of victimism in that post, I can't agree more on what you said, especially about compassion as I believe if adopted by someone it would change his life and the lives of those who come into contact with him.
Thanks for sharing

Thank you so much! I see this victimization in people and it really pulls on my heart. I just want to shake them (gently) and say "Don't you know what a beautiful and powerful creature you are??"

I actually like this post a lot. I see it on some friends, their misery is like a self for filling prophecy which makes them tangle and tangle in circles.

What I am wondering about even more.... This post is over a year old, I scrolled through your page. You have rep 38, but you post a lot. How is this possible? With this consistency of posting you should be way higher already. I also see that not all of your posts are as good. Some are nice, nice blogs. Some are just an image sometimes without a source... Maybe leave those out and stick to good blogs like this??

I LOVE your guncontrol blog from 23 days ago with 0.00 payout :((((

The images you are seeing are from dmania.lol, a meme sharing site where you earn steem. I posted a few of them, but had recently stopped because doing so reduces the quality of my blog overall.

Thank you for the complements! I'm trying to build up my steemit blog. I had been inactive over a year, but recently gotten back into it. I would have linked the gun control post here, but it's not a month old yet.

You can use it in a while then for this initiative. Glad to have you back on the steeming track!

I think I will! Thanks again <3

Your post earned a follow from me.
One thing I recently heard someone point out, is that another definition for the word suffering is consent. This doesn't mean that if someone commits a violation against you that you've consented to that action. But you do consent to the pain you put yourself through afterwards - which often is a unavoidably necessary process. You consent to the trauma because your unconscious knows that you need to process it. The key, I think, is knowing when to say "I no longer suffer/consent to this pain." Finding the needed closure for this is a very difficult thing for a lot of people, but doing so can help arm you against any further trespasses by others.

@fireawaymarmot :That is a very interesting way of looking at it, and gives me a lot to think about! Thank you for sharing that insight. I think you will like my "affirmations of the healer/healee" should you want to take a look at that in my blog. It talks about the soul choosing the right conditions for the fruitions of ones karmas, and that is very similar to what you are talking about. Blessings <3

I was quite proud of this piece that got little attention. Thanks again @whatamidoing for this initiative.

Confused Philosophy: My take on philosophy - Socrates' the wisest man who knew nothing!

Confused Philosphy.jpg

I like this post of an introduction to philosophy. I would write more of a comment but when it comes to this subject I tend to get carried away with one thought leading to another, and no one needs to read an entire book in the comments section.

haha yes, philosophy has a way of doing that I often drift off and have to bring myself back. lol. Thanks for reading!

I really like this post, since I'm trying to make Socratic debate cool again (you know, people arguing with the goal of honing the mind and finding the truth) <3

Thank you for taking the time to read it. He is cool in his own right so good luck with that. :)

Hello @insideoutlet thanks for that informative post :)
Every truth is absolute to a certain level or we may call it layer, beyond this layer it proves wrong. Every truth has many faces depending on from where you look.

Yes very true the version ofthe truth always depends on the person's perspective telling it.

I love the philosophy tag on here, too! I think one of the most important things I learned was how to understand that Socrates quote. I find comfort in admitting that at the end of the day, none of us really "know" anything or "know" any more than anyone else - the major questions in life are left unanswered for us all. Nice post!

Thank you! It took me a while to get the meaning of the quote but now I have it makes complete sense. We never stop learning if we are wise.

I'm pleased to know that you've got interest in Philosophy. Philosophy as a discipline question almost everything that exists including the existence of God, rationalism etc.

One of my favorite philosophical quotes is"I think therefore I exist".

Philosophy could be paradoxical some times. How would you say a wise man knows nothing lol. That's philosophy for you.

Great post and best wishes!!!

Thank you and I love that quote too. :)

Yea, that's one of the first quotes I got to know in Philosophy.

thanks for hosting this awesome project @whatamidoing

Here's my dead post entry: https://steemit.com/writing/@amariespeaks/the-30-thousand-word-question-am-i-worthy

Didn't make a cent :-[

This is an insightful post which should be massively rewarded. Self motivation is important to achieving success. No one would help you actualise your dreams. There's a saying that you can take a horse to the river but you can not force it to drink. That drive and force to meet one's target should come from within.

We should not pay attention to what others will say about us. Focus and achieve your aim and you will be surprised how it would be appreciated by others.

Thanks for the inspiration piece.

thank you @williams-owb :) self motivation is truly the bane of my existence! but slowly I am getting better! I do a blog a day 20 minute free write where I don't allow myself to second guess or edit what I type and that has helped me greatly. I'm worrying less about the "is this worthy" stuff and focusing on just getting it written down.
You're welcome :) and thanks again for reading my dead post!

I'm glad to hear that you are improving on yourself.

Cheers!

YASSSS!!!! Loving this! I'm glad you found this amazing contest, which allowed me to find your posts. Following!

thank you @stirling. I always find cool new people to follow from the dead post initiative! so glad you liked it and to have you as a follower :) visiting yours now !

Whaaa this is a cool thing actually. Sometimes I dont get it why perfectly good posts receive almost nearly to nothing payout and why some pick up.

Let me drop this nice travel post in here from my trip from China to Holland by train

https://steemit.com/travel/@karinxxl/8000-km-by-train-a-trip-from-china-to-holland-part-1

Wow, what an experience, I would love to see the Great Wall of China one day, its on the dreams list!

Was on my bucket list as well big time. Super cool place to be, but all of China was a whole experience I found !

I'm sure it was. It's so hard to pick when booking holidays. Too many amazing places to choose from and never enough money to do them all.

hahaha exactly..the money :D

I live on s small island in the Caribbean and getting out of here already costs me a crap load every time. For me vacation is exploring, and not chilling on a beach (because I already have that here hahahah)

You've got lovely shots in your trip. What caught my attention is that long wall. Really? Some set of people constructed that? That's wonderful!!!

Well-done!!!

Ever heard of the Chinese wall?? Man-made and around whoooole ancient China. Super impressive!

I liked your post :) what a cool trip. I'd love to see the Great Wall one day but for now I'm settling for your awesome pictures ! That entire trip sounds fantastic, I'm definitely going to check out the rest of your bog!

The whole trip was the bomb actually. Literally a once in a lifetime trip! All of the blogs about it are way past payday already, bit that doesnt mean they arent good travel inspiration :)

If you like to travel, I put up some new travel blogs for a small island here in the Caribbean ;)

oohh I will certainly check them out! I love vicariously living through world-travelers! :-D

I think you did a fantastic job on this post. I also like the questions you pose to others like,"have you added any values to your friends lives?" or "Should you change how you relate to people." These are some very interesting questions and they aren't the only ones you pose either. They just happen to be some of my personal favorites.

When you talk about ones career is another good thing. This is a very important thing to a lot of us and knowing if we are in the right thing or how we can improve on things is crucial.

I liked this post :) although I'm not a fan of the 'New Years Resolution", or new year, new me tradition - I think these assessments are super important for every person to do! - I think maybe your list should be more of a monthly reminder list instead of yearly! Maybe even a weekly check in lol
People get too focused on the calendar year, when in fact the Spring is really the start of a new year on earth and would probably be a better time to have a "resolution" that you could stick to because most people liven up in Spring and fade back a bit in the winter months.

There are basic life questions we need to provide answers to either on daily, weekly, monthly or yearly basis in order to know where we stand. In short, we should endeavor to make a review of all our activities.

I'm not surprised that you placed relationship as your first point. It's our relationship with people around us that shapes our career, finance, travels and so on. If we don't have rest of mind as a result of our relation with people around us, we may lack focus in our and it will affect our source of income and you may not even think about traveling.

Great post!!!

I largely appreciate y'all for taking time to check out my post. :) Thanks

Hello @whatamidoing. Thanks for the contest and congratulations for 19th week’s winners.
Here is my post for this week.
Real friends appreciate you for no reason.

My favourite post by @dev-core. Almost nobody saw it because he just joined steemit and he hasn't got many followers yet, but this made my laugh hard and I believe it's a weel made, funny post.
https://steemit.com/cryptocurrency/@devcore/spacekim-opening-night-speech-by-kim-jong-un-subbed

Sadly didn't earn up to 10 cents from this post.
It explains the Steemit blockchain succinctly to newbies and the fact that steemit isn't a get-rich-quick ponzi scheme rather, a sustainable platform that has changed the social media space and is set to lives positively

https://steemit.com/steemit/@mickyscofield/steemit-isn-t-a-fast-money-spinner-rather-a-great-community

We need to school the newbies about the ideology of Steemit. It is sad when you see people's comment begging for upvote. We need to understand that we have to socialize and meet people to make the community progress and not just for the money.

Cheers!
