Mini Motivation #79 - Playing bad matchmaker

in #community6 years ago

So last night was fun, not only because we had an engaging crowd at the 100degrees event, or that senior members of the #teammalaysia came to support, despite their busy schedules and crazy traffic. The part about community events that I enjoyed the most, and frankly haven’t had for a long time, was the “after-party” - where you grab a few friends, new and old, and just had unedited, fun conversation over food.

And because of a shall-not-to-be-named Steemian, let’s call him Austin, was chatting with me a few days earlier about dating as an introverted guy (read this post for 53 tips), and there was a single girl (hmph, let’s call her Olive) sitting at our table, I decided to play a (bad) matchmaker.

Maybe I understood Austin’s position, because I used to be the shy guy when it came to dating, that the initial sparks of connections with a total stranger was usually the hardest to jumpstart, let alone a pretty stranger. Or just my bad attempt of trying to be his wing man. Frankly, kinda thinking about it, it could be totally because of the high from me speaking on stage earlier that night too.

So I poked fun, made humorous remarks, teased the both of them (which I hope they were cool), because if there’s one thing I know that connect people better than any other form of substance abuse, is laughter. And because I shun tradition or any “old-way” of doing things, getting Olive’s number for Austin was as simple as me putting her on the spot, trying to make her blush, and setting an instant quick date was pushing Austin to walk her to her car while getting the rest of the group of f*ck off.

Austin was blushing a lot throughout the late supper (which I suspect at one point maybe be my last with him) with the barrage of teases we were throwing at him, probably with me leading the attacks. I checked in with him later in the night if he was cool with it (and if we’re still friends, haha!), and he seemed genuinely cool with it. Was I successful in setting them up? Well, it’s up to them now, because that’s only so much a bad matchmaker could do.

Oh yeah, I did a quick check with Olive too, and she's cool. So I'm not that bad after all…

In life, when we’re alone, sometimes we lack the courage to take the first steps, even when we know it leads us towards the things we want. Having the support of others definitely will help push things along, which was what I tried to be last night. Over the years, many had given me such support, and I credit much of my success to them, and like my Ma had always reminded me - pay it forward. Sometimes when you don’t know how to help, I guess injecting humour and putting smiles on people’s face is the way to go.

Oh yeah, on that note, do you have any odd/bad matchmaking experience to share?

Mini Motivation is my own daily strategy to inspire myself. Mostly 3-minute reads.

From Motivation, we gain Inspiration. From Inspiration, we achieve Momentum. And the rest, they say, is history.

Hope it helps nudge you a bit too in the right direction.

Oh it did? Let me know in the comments, and of course an upvote would be a nice motivation for me. :)

Stay awesome!

Wait, why's Mav posting on Steemit nowadays?

Well, unlike other blogging and social media platform, Steemit is the only platform that allows me to earn cryptocurrency when I engage with it. Yup, one Steem is about USD5, and you, too, can earn Steem Dollars every time you:

  • Create content (articles, blog posts, podcasts, videos, photos)
  • Upvote (like) other people contents
  • Comment on other people's posts
  • Have discussions, share opinions etc!

Yup, basically it's the very same thing you're doing on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc all along!

The only difference? For once you can earn a nice income on the side!

Sign up for a free Steemit account, and you can thank me by coming back and upvoting this article. And guess what, you will earn Steem too for doing that! #awesome

Hnnnghhh Austin & Olive 😏

Ssssshhhh...

When Austin and Olive jadi, we may have more makan tour kakis

As an introvert myself what I have to say is no matter how much I want to hide my emotions when I met my wife to be there was no holding back. I mean it took time to get me to open up to her but the fact that we found each other without others help made it all the more romantic, I think? She says I am not romantic at all :p

haha it seems that mostly things happen when you're not trying to force it happen, for sure!

Don't know about that @nomadicsoul. It was pretty deliberate last night for some... ;)

Those there may even recall it as brutally blushing. @AaronLeang?

Oh I am confused @maverickfoo. Thought you were not going to mention the victims lol.

Thanks for the event once again! Keeping my fingers crossed for Austin&Olivia, it could become a very nice steem love story 😂

As I repeatedly have to tell @bitrocker2020, it is Steeminlove!

Yay to 'Austin & Olive'! Hope they get together after all that matchmaking, and wingman-ing.

Sometimes it involves getting lost on the way to the car too :)

Kay poh a bit here... Oh... Austin and Olive were lost in the middle of the car park ah?

Ahem. Cannot simply ask this kind of things on the blockchain ler...

@maverickfoo, never knew you are talented to become a matchmaker too. Now let's see if Austin and Olive will get along after your effort.

Well, basically my style of matchmaking involves nuking and napalming both sides, so new love can rise from the ashes... Haha.

Well, when it works, I'm pretty sure I will get a nice upvote from both of them.

That's a good strategy, @maverickfoo. But once they start posting their love story, I doubt it would be you are the one who upvote them. :p

Hahaha I'm glad you're still friends with Austin! I love seeing all of your faces in the photo! It sounds like such a fun time!!!

"because if there’s one thing I know that connect people better than any other form of substance abuse, is laughter. " <--- This is so true. I love the way you write.

I'm sure your stage talk was just as beautifully pieced together as your writing is! Congrats on being a badass lol.

Apparently one of the main things for dating is just to keep trying and to actually TRY to get rejected. The more you get rejected, the less it eventually effects you and the more confident you become.

The only way to get to the queen of hearts in a deck of cards, is to pick it off one by one. Well, until some crappy friends come shuffle the deck. Poor Austin, but I'm sure he will remember the night, and it makes good stories for the grand kids one day.

lol good metaphor Austin & Olive. I'm sure both of them pretty enjoy your bad matchmaker, who know maybe like you said one more couple in teammalaysia and one more gang for makan kakis!

One can only hope. But then again, there are only a few people in this pick, so wouldn't be hard to undercover Austin's real identity...

Haha, only all of us in the pic know who are they :D

Woww... nice... can I join this team

Hello @ maverickfoo good results. I have stained eyes of my tiger. It's going to be a very good result for you. Continue your mission. You have a nice wenstday
