Part 37: Pride and Anger

We met ten minutes before the appointment time in front of the elegant skyscraper where Demirkol Holding operates. For the first time in his life, Berkan came to a meeting at the time agreed upon. When we notify the clerk at the reception that we will meet Mr. Savaş, he said, “Will you meet Savaş Demirkol?”

”Yes, why are you surprised, " asked Deniz.

“Mr. Savaş's guests usually go down from the helicopter track on the terrace,” said the receptionist.

They gave us a security guard and directed us to the VIP elevator. For the first time in my life, I was riding an elevator that was so flashy; it was painted in golden yellow. When the door closed and the elevator moved upwards, the two Japanese Samurai's holograms began to fight swords at eye level. It was a good show. I wished the elevator was going slower.

Mr. Savaş's assistant Melisa took us over from the security guard and took us into the guest waiting room. ” Mr. Savaş is talking to the undersecretary of the economy, the interview may expand, in the meantime, what can I offer you, " she asked with her beautiful voice. All three of us wanted a filter coffee to focus our attention better during the interview. In the meantime, Mr. Tunç, who we learned was the general director of e-commerce companies, joined us. Mr. Tunç was an energetic man in the mid-40s. After talking us a few words, he asked for permission and began to reply to messages from his mobile phone; then he went to the hall where the elevator was located and started to make a phone call.

Without getting up from his high-arched office seat where he was buried into, Savaş Demirkol called us who entered the door like ducks “welcome friends.” He pointed to the meeting table in the other corner of the room. Apparently, there was a new phone at the very last moment. The black suit and the white shirt with sleeves were exquisite. His black hair and short beards were carefully cut and combed. He was the type with who did not belong to any age; he could be thirty years old, or forty years old. Everything about the man, from face lines to the colors of his clothes, tone of voice to the decoration of his room was sharp and clear, general director Tunç was like a child waiting for his father's allowance during the festival near him.

Berkan was shy because he didn't get in or out of such environments, and Deniz seemed confident with the advantage of her gender, and I was trying to figure out what kind of a man we had contact with. Finally, when the phone call was over, he got up and came to us, and shook hands of each one of us one by one, and then he sat his chair at the table. I didn't miss the fact that the chair he was sitting in was more dignified and significant than the other chairs of the meeting table.

Savaş Demirkol entered the word by saying, “I hope you are good, friends, we are not allowed to be bad, we have a lot of work to do."

I said, “We're good, although we're a little excited.”

“There is nothing to be excited about, we are among friends, Tunç knows, after agreeing on certain principles, it is effortless to do business with me, I do not hesitate any time, as long as our minds are clear, we can run towards the goal without hesitation.”

“If we agree on the target, why not?” said Deniz.

“I like young people who are so confident, as long as we have a good grasp of the limits of our capabilities. Tunç brought me reports about Gülizar, although not unique, interesting work. You seem to have created a little bit of excitement on the users. Although there are much better apps abroad than yours, this is Turkey, isn't it? Although it is impossible for us to adopt it here, I wanted to discuss possible cooperation with you. How many months do we need to write an application like Gülizar, Tunç?”.

“I think we can come out at a time like three months,” said Tunç.

“Well, if we do a major marketing campaign, how many users do we reach six months after the launch?”.

"There can always be positive or negative surprises about these issues. However, I estimate that we can reach roughly 100,000 users.”

"How many users does Gülizar have?" Mr. Savaş asked.

”Around ten thousand," I said with a cold voice.

“You've done a great job with zero marketing budget, and near zero capital, you don't need to sulk at all,” said Savaş Demirkol.

“Will copying Gülizar be lawful and ethical,” I asked.

"Unfortunately, no one can discover America from the beginning. As other applications inspire you, we can be inspired by you,” said Savaş Demirkol.

“Thank you for your honesty. You have presented us a very realistic picture, yet I would like to remind you that today the qualified workforce is scarce,” Deniz said.

I said to myself, "Well done, Deniz, punch towards his liver."

“That's exactly why you're here, How much can Gulizar grow in the next five years and how much can he make? I'm not on that side of the business. I see young people who rely too much on their talents with the enthusiasm of youth and are not yet aware of the cold realities of the business world."

I said, “when there is a conflict of interest between the two sides, it is necessary to avoid one side's opinion to qualify as the truth.”

“Is there any chance that we can hear Samet's sentence from any friend who works in your company? asked Savaş Demirkol to Tunç.

“I don't think so,” said Tunç.

"Yes, they may not be able to bring these words together, or they may avoid defending the contrary to their boss's thesis. Anyway, you guys, stop disobeying my words. When you walked through the door, I was thinking about offering $ 350,000 for your company, but I have to admit, you're tough. I've raised my offer to $ 500,000, and I offer you a job to work as a senior advisor at Demirkol Holding. Your first job, of course, will be to improve Gülizar further. Your economic rights, which are equivalent to the senior advisory title, will be sent to your e-mail soon,” said Savaş Demirkol.

It was as if he was not at a business meeting, but was fighting the enemy during the most critical battle of a war in which the homeland was defended.

“Thank you for your offer. We need to think a little,” I answered.

“I don't expect you to say anything right now, though I would have jumped on such an offer if I were you, and I would just ask you to give me your answer in two days,” said Savaş.

“Of course, thank you very much for your interest in our work and for your time with us,” said Deniz.

“We agreed,” Savaş Demirkol said while he was getting out of the seat “and, in principle, let me say that I did not leave any bargaining margin on my offer. The offer I gave you is ‘buy or let go.’ We carry out all purchases in line with this principle,” said Savaş Demirkol.

“We understand,” said Berkan.

"Berkan is probably the genius programmer boy," said Savaş Demirkol smiling.

Berkan answered, “Thank you, sir."

Because I thought Savaş was treating us like idiots, I had an anger that I had barely suppressed. Of course, I didn't say a word, and we left by saying goodbye.
